I recently bought this car to restore. Recent changes in finances has taken this dream away. The reason I purchased this was because of the lack of rust. I looked at quite a few Grand Am vehicles and none came close to this on as far as the condition of the body is concerned.

The inside of the doors  & door seams look like new as does the inside of the rear quarters and front fenders. The quarters and front fenders look very good from the outside also. Very minimal surface rust on right rear quarter. The trunk floor is rock solid with very little surface rust inside. The hood and front fenders are near perfect. The front and back bumpers are very solid with minimal surface rust. The only disappointment is the rear lip area of the trunk. I am not sure why it rusted there but as you can see from the pics, it will need some work. The inside of the trunk lid is solid. The floor is solid except for rust from the inside on front drivers and passengers pans. The underside of the pans are great. They are somewhat solid but should be replaced. This car was rust-proofed when new. The rest of the inside of the car is virtually rust free.

The seats have been re-upholstered but it looks like they were dome very inexpensively. I think they just sewed new material onto the existing front. They should be re-done correctly. The door panels are not correct, They are tan and have been dyed. Not a good job at all but can be re-done correctly. The lower portion of the door panels are not correct. Thus car has power windows and the panels are for manual windows. The lower panels are pretty easy to find. The headliner is good except in the front where it came off the taping that holds it in place. I think it can be re-taped. Both power windows work. The drivers window is loose in the track but does function. The carpet is like new. As far as I can tell all electrical works fine

I know very little about the engine and driveline. I confirmed that it is matching # engine 400 2BBL. It did start right up cold at 10 degrees when I took it off the trailer. I drove it 1 block to my garage and have not started it again. It does have an exhaust leak on the passenger side manifold. The previous owner decided he wanted headers on the car and attempted to take off the manifold without using heat. He busted three of the bolts before giving up. I can feel the bolt ends so they should come off with heat when the manifold is taken off. I changed the oil and antifreeze and will drain the old gas next and add new non corn gas before starting it up again. there is some surface rust in the engine compartment but not too bad. It is where the original rustproofing on the fender wells let go.The air conditioning compressor is gone. Other than that it all looks stock. The nose piece is fiberglass (not the original Rubber) and needs some fiberglass repair. The front grills are missing and the hood cable is broken. The Wheels are original and look good. Two of the center caps are missing, the trim rings are nice and the tires are new. The spare is original and the jack is included.

That is about all I can tell you as I have not had a chance to drive this and living in  ice cold WI says I probably will not any time soon. I think this car could go to paint without hardly any body work needed. The interior, engine compartment and trunk areas would be very easy to make nice too.

$500.00 non refundable deposit to be paid via paypal  within 48 Hours of end of auction. The rest to be cash and the car to be picked up within 14 days after end of auction. I reserve the right to end the auction early if sold locally. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy it. No guarantees come with this car. It is going on 39 years old and will need some work. Please email or call with questions. I will do my best to answer them. Tom 608-212-9011 (Note, the chrome wheels shown in a couple of the PICS are not included)

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?
