Hello! For sale is a silver 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE sedan. I have owned this car for about 7 years with no issues until a few months ago. Some information you'll want to know:

# The battery is only about 2 years old, but the car hasn't been started daily since I took it off of the road. Life happens! It needs at least a jump, or at most a new battery to get running again. If not, you'll have to tow it...sorry :(

# When it is up and running, the cabin gets VERY loud - deafening. Either a muffler or maybe something exhaust resonator related? I don't know, I'm not a car guy...but it does sound awful. This is why I took it off the road.

# The windshield is cracked along the bottom. The hood latch broke, and the hood came up while I was driving and smacked the windshield. Windshield has some cracks but it doesn't leak, and it withstood quite a few inches of heavy ice and snow accumulation this winter with no problems. The hood is currently held in place by bungee cables.

# Since the battery is currently dead, I can't see the electronic odometer. It's definitely in the ballpark of about 200,000 miles though, either just barely before or just after.

I'll be the first to admit that the car isn't pretty, but it was my baby for a long time. The hood is jacked up, the front bumper is cracked good, the front of it is straight-up ugly. If you're concerned, a new hood and a Le Bra will make it look worlds better than it does now.

All or most of its service receipts are in the glove compartment, it always had regular oil changes and the tires weren't even a year old when I took it off the road. They still have plenty of tread!

The car is very clean on the inside and out and has barely any rust. No funny smells in the cabin, upholstery looks great, and it even comes with some faux leather seat covers. Once the muffler/exhaust issue is fixed, it will be the comfortable, powerful ride I always knew it to be. I hope someone will enjoy this car as much as I have :)

Looking for only about $800, to cover a successful listing fee on eBay and taking into account the age, mileage, and general ugliness of the car. Also, I know it is inconvenient to have to tow it away or get a new battery for it if you have to.

Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO

Mon, 24 Jun 2013

Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

Saturn Vue ignition switch leads to new group of GM recalls totaling 312k

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

General Motors has another spate of recalls to announce. This time they cover 312,280 vehicles worldwide, including 269,041 of in the US, in a total of six campaigns. In 2014, the automaker has recalled 29,079,765 vehicles worldwide, with 25,754,356 of those in the US.
The largest among them covers 215,243 units of the Saturn Vue from 2002-2004 model years worldwide, 202,115 in the US. It's possible for the for the key to be removed even when the ignition isn't in the OFF position. The company knows of two crashes and one injury caused by this problem. Dealers are checking the parts and replacing the ignition cylinder and key set, if necessary.
Next is 72,826 models worldwide (48,059 vehicles in the US) of the 2013 Cadillac ATS four-door sedan, 2013 Buick Encore and 2013 Chevy Trax in Canada. It's possible that the for lap belt pretensioner to retract but not to lock, which could increase occupant movement during a crash. Both front, outboard lap belt pretensioners are being replaced, and a stop-sale is in effect on unsold models until the problem is repaired. There are no known crashes or injuries, though.
