1970 Pontiac GTO convertible, 400ci/400 turbo auto., PHS documented,New Jersey car.  Cardinal Red, White int.& power top that goes up and down nicely,  power disc brakes, 3.55 limited slip rear, hood tach, Am radio,

I was told that this GTO is #s matching from the previous owner.  I bought it to drive it so I've never bothered with checking.  The block is cast #YS467758, #13 heads,  trans 70-PY-17498, rear 9799100.  If that helps anyone out there.

Very presentable Cardinal Red paint job that appears to have been done in the early 2000s.  The paint shines well with very minor dings here and there. They may be able to be wet sanded out I haven't tried. The nose shows some minor flex cracks that these enduro noses get and there are two eraser sized rust bubbles on the hood.  All in all the car looks good only on close scrutiny would anyone notice the flaws.

The white interior is in very good condition. As is the white top.   All the gauges work as they should.  The suspension and steering are tight.  Brakes responsive.  The exhaust note not too loud to cruise in but loud enough to let yourself be heard.  All the lights work, even the trunk lamp!

In the last year I have repaced the front wheel bearings, new exhaust, starter, and have purchased new stainless pinch weld molding(yet to be installed).

This is a great crusing drop top GTO.  I've taken many 2-3 hour drives in this car with no troubles at all.  This car gets driven regularly and without hesitation.  Starts and runs readily each time. Has one small oil leak that will be rectified at this springs oil change ( oil filter housing needs a new gasket).  The horn, radio, and clock do not work but other than that this car is ready to roll.

I am not selling out of necessity.  Just dreaming of a resto-mod drop top 5 speed that I want to build.  Although this is a really nice car, its not "My" car.   I have no doubts the next owner will get many enjoyable hours in this one.  For me its on to the next one.

I encourage anyone interested to come and see it for yourself.  It surely wont disappoint.  I am 20 minutes from the Pittsburgh airport.  If you have any questions call Chad 724-312-2529.

Thanks, Chad

GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
