On May-03-14 at 10:23:22 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer some questions that I have gotten about the car from the listing and would add the following: 1. Does the AC work - compressor kicks on but does not cool, so would think it needs freon since the car has not been used in about 10 years. 2.The car had an alignment after the ball joints and tire rod ends and steering box was replaced. 3. The tires are the correct size for the 1988 Formula and the front do not match the rear. 4. The gauges are missing on the dash, but wiring is still there, previous owner said he took them off for storage on top of dash and could not find them. 5. There was a Pioneer Stero in the car when I purchased, but it was dead and did not replace, but all the wiring and adapters are there. 6. There is no rust in the trunk area and will include a new pictures, chassis is not rusted and it is solid. 7. Engine seem strong and does not smoke, along with the clutch, so not know when the last tune up was done. 8. Work was performed by myself and done right, not a jack leg job that you get in most garages since I was going to do a kit car on it, but not enough time now. List of parts replaced and cost is follows: KYB Front Shocks $104 KYB Rear Struts $165 Steering Rack $205 Rack Boots $32 ECM Board and performance chip $120 Front Rotors $80 Front Brake Pads $38 Front Calipers $150 Rear Brake Pads $38 Rear Brake Calipers $138 Tie rod ends $42 Upper and Lower Ball Joints $90 New Rear Tires $200 Fuel Filter $20 Battery $110 Shift Kit and Cables $180 Three Emergency Brake Cables $82 Total Spent on new parts in last month $1794 |

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys
Mon, 10 Jun 2013According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
Trans Am Depot teases 2014 GTO
Mon, 24 Jun 2013Here comes the Judge. Court is in session. The verdict is in. How many more tired clichés can we come up with? It hardly seems to matter, because it's happening: Trans Am Depot has announced via the teaser video below that it is launching a 2014 GTO, complete with Carousel Red (bright orange, really) paint and full Judge badging.
The car is based on Trans Am Depot's 6T9 Goat, which, in case you don't get the reverential references, is meant to mimic the look of the 1969 Pontiac GTO. As with the company's other cars -including the 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am we recently drove - the GTO will be based on the current Chevy Camaro, which means two doors, V8 engines and rear-wheel drive, just like the muscle cars of days past.
As for actual details of what's under the 2014 GTO's hood, we're completely left hanging. We'd expect some sort of power adder (turbo, supercharger or possibly some other form of a highly massaged version of the Camaro's V8), and we certainly know that GM has any number of hi-po crate engines to choose from.
