I'm the third owner of this beautiful Catalina. I bought it a few years ago, on ebay, from an old guy's collection from South Carolina. It didn't need much, just some "TLC". I did a "frame on" restoration, mostly myself, but had a little bit of help. I had it painted in a black metallic, which is very subtle, but glistens in the sunlight. I re-wired it, with modern blade fuse block. It's been kept very stock looking, because I think it's most pretty that way, but some changes/improvements have been done. They are:
-- front & back bumpers re-chromed
-- new upholstery, carpet, headliner, sail panels, door panels.
-- center console re-chromed
-- steering wheel restored to better than new
-- no rust or bondo anywhere on this car.
-- modern stereo & speakers. Stereo hidden in glove box.
-- 3.42/1 rear end gear installed. This car is fast!
-- new brakes, high output fuel pump, and modern aluminum radiator.
-- Mallory unilite electronic distributor (no points to mess with!), and new spark plugs and wires
-- new Interstate Battery (last summer)
-- 8 Lug wheels have been sand blasted, and clear coated with POR 15 clear protective coating.
I describe this car to people as "beautiful, driver quality". It is not a show car, but damn close. The paint job is very nice, but it has a few minor blemishes, and runs if you look hard to find them. The only other flaws that it has:
-- turn signals keep blowing the fuse. It is a small short in the steering column, and the ring in there needs to be adjusted. Small project I haven't gotten to yet.
-- speedometer stopped working a couple months ago. The cable from the transmission is spinning, but the head in the dashboard may need to be replaced. Haven't got to that project either!
This is all I can think of. This car drives great, and I get the "thumbs Up" from people all over the Chicago area when I drive it. I love it, but have had my fun restoring it, and need to unload some hobby cars so my son can go to college in a few years! I'm pricing it very reasonably so someone else in the hobby can enjoy it as much as I have.
-- It needs front end bushings, as they are probably original. Rides a little rough on bumpy Illinois (crap) roads we have in our state. Another minor annoyance, and drives wonderfully on smooth, country roads or highways.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial
Sat, 16 Mar 2013
The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.
GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll
Tue, 25 Feb 2014
588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.
