For sale is a super-rare, fresh "barn find" 1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite Convertible.  Production was incredibly low with only 1,523 convertibles made...how many still exist?  This one was special ordered in Burgundy Metallic with black racing stripes and black bucket seat interior with center seat.  Restore it to original condition, or build your GTX convertible tribute car.  If I keep the car, I'm going to drop in a nice 440 and do the GTX trim/tribute.  Why not?

This car features it's original Magnum 500 wheels, an old repaint in black, interior stock other than non-original front bucket seats.  Original center seat is still present.  Dash pad is excellent, gauges and overlay good.  Radio and associated trim panel missing.

The fender tag is present and decodes as follows:

CAR: Plymouth Satellite 2 Door Convertible
ENGINE: 318cid 2-bbl V8
TRANSMISSION: 3-Speed Automatic
TIRES: Unknown tire code
BUILD DATE: July 02.
AXLE: 2.76 Rear Axle Ratio

Y1: Black Convertible Top

abc OPTIONS:
a5: Center Front Seat
b4: Bucket Seats
u1: Sold Car When Built (Somebody Ordered It)
y1: Unknown Option

Grill, chrome, stainless, glass, rear panel trim, etc. are all very nice.  The body panels are straight and the car appears to be wearing all original sheet metal.

Floors and trunk look good.  Structural under-car all looks good.  Lower quarters both sides have rust down low only, very minor evidence of rust bubbling on the passenger door lower corner, and the same in one very small area down low on the driver's side front fender.  That's it for rust; I've taken pictures of all the rust areas I've found.  Top is worn, rear glass is present.  Top motor works but frame is stiff and needs assistance to go up and down right now.. will need some lubrication and it should be fine.

Engine is original, and supposedly rebuilt with zero miles... previous owner has had the car for many years and worked at the local Chrysler dealership until he retired.  They did the rebuild, he put it in, never fired.  That's the story.  It has obviously been removed, as it has been painted after whatever work was done. Selling as-is as a non-operable project car.

Clear title in my name.

Please be prepared to remit payment in full within 3 days of auction end by PayPal, bank wire transfer, cash, or major bank cashier's check (must wait for verification/clearance with ANY check).  Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer.  I will make myself available for loading.  While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle accurately, it is a 45-year-old classic and therefore being sold as-is, without warranty written, expressed, or implied.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
