1969 Plymouth RoadRunner Originally 383 cu. in., auto trans, Alpine White with black vinyl top and black deluxe interior w/ bucket seats, no console, non-air, manual brakes and steering. Car now has bench seat. Body is completely stripped to a bare metal shell. Body has been acid dipped to remove old paint, body filler and any rust. Car will require bodywork and some new sheet metal. I have the drivers side front inner fenderwell. There will be several patch panels required (around lower back window corners, around tail lights, trunk lip where it meets the quarters, above the rear wheelwells, lower quarter behind rear wheel). Car is still very solid for 45 years old. My plan was to buy 2 full rear quarter panels and cut out the patches I needed since some patch panels are not offered at this time. I estimated $2000-$2500 in sheet metal required from AMD (Auto Metal Direct just north of Atlanta). Part of the driver’s side inside front frame rail needs replaced (approx. 6 inches has rust pinholes). This piece is also sold by AMD. It, along with the inner fenderwell was corroded from battery acid. The rear shock crossmember will need to be welded back in. (I have it). Evidentally it was removed many years ago. I just learned this week that the car used to be raced and that is also part of the reason that the rear quarters need repair above the wheel openings. Car was being built to resemble a 1969 1/2 440 6 BBL car (A-12 code car). Everything was bought specifically for this purpose. Most parts are the same as a hemi car. The only way to tell the difference is by the VIN. Car came from Texas, so rust corrosion is minimal, but still some there. Car was last inspected and driven in 1998 I think. The inspection sticker was on the original windshield before it shattered when we tried to remove it. I have owned it since 2004. The intent was to put it together and resell but I guess I’m too much of a perfectionist and figured if it’s going to get done, it might as well be done right. It’s too valuable of a car if finished correctly. I considered keeping it, but I have another project car I would like to finish. 2 at one time gets a little time consuming and expensive. I do have the original fender tag. I just couldn’t locate it for the ad. The car also HAD the original build sheet under the backseat, but when I tried to remove it, it just crumbled into a million pieces. I wish I had at least taken a picture of it. I also have a factory wiring diagram and a factory parts book on a CD with lots of pics to aid in reassembly. Let’s say you spend $10,000 in bodywork & paint. You would end up with a complete BRAND NEW car that you could sell and make money on later on. Total I have invested not including my time & labor or the parts that came w/car: $23779. Reserve is set much lower than my investment. I just wish I had the time, money and space to finish both cars, but with 1 kid in college and another one in a couple of years, I have to face the fact that it may never happen. I’m not one to sit on something forever when someone else can benefit from buying it and having a nice project car. Winning bidder will need to send a $1000 deposit in the form of PayPal or cashiers check within 3 days of end of auction. Full payment must be made within 10 days by cashiers check or cash. US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
