1968 R5P7 Plymouth Valiant

OVERVIEW

No expense was spared for this build. The Valiant still needs to be completed and will be a totally unique, one-of-a-kind type car when finished. Picture yourself driving this stock-appearing, lightweight Mopar A-body with a 358cu.in.R5P7 Dodge Nascar engine producing over 750 horsepower! It has enough power to run into the high 9 second zone in the quarter mile and capable of 170mph plus top speed in the standing mile. With its superior oiling and very low valve spring pressure, you’ll be able to put countless miles on this engine without fear. The R5P7 Dodge Nascar engine has an unbelievable throttle response and sound, which will gain you attention and notoriety at the race track, stoplight or at your local cruise night.

I have well over $25,000 invested in this project with a reserve price set that is less than 50% of my total cost! Bid with confidence as this is a once in a lifetime deal! This car will be sold in ‘’as is condition’’ with no warranty. The winning bidder must deposit $500 via Paypal within 24hours of the auction ending. The remainder of the balance will be due in full at time of pick up. If winning bidder fails to pick up the car or fails to pay in full at time of pick up, the deposit will be forfeited and the Valiant will be relisted for sale immediately. Winning bidder will also be responsible for arranging all transportation and the costs associated with it. The Valiant is currently located in the greater Kansas City, MO area (centrally located), which should be easier for transporting.

BODY

Very solid and in great shape, it has spent most of its life in Arizona and has a clean title. You’ll be hard pressed to find one in this shape! Body has been primed and sealed. The back glass and all side glass are in great condition, it does need a windshield. Front bumper is fiberglass and rear bumper is factory. The front grille is also in good shape.

INTERIOR

Dash and gauges are in good shape.  The A-body Front buckets are in great condition. Rear seat does need to be re-upholstered. Dash pad along with the front and rear door panels are in great shape. No expense was spared in constructing the custom 10-point chrome moly roll cage that is tucked up out of the way for easy entry into the front and back seats along with being very well concealed.

ENGINE

Complete and ready to run R5P7 Dodge Nascar engine. This engine has been freshened and all it needs is a carburetor. Originally from Ernie Elliot’s engine shop, it has the best of everything. Sonny Bryant, Carillo, J&E, Total Seal, Jesel, Comp Cams, .937 key way lifters, titanium valves, etc… The camshaft has been changed to make peak power at a lower operating rpm to be more enjoyable for street use. This engine produced 768 horsepower @ 7900 rpm and 550ft.lbs. of torque @ 6700 rpm. It also made 557 hp @ 5500 rpm, 602 hp @ 6000 rpm, 702 hp @ 6700 rpm, and produced well over 700 plus horsepower @ 8900 rpm. That is an incredible average!  This engine also comes with a brand new set of custom fabricated stainless steel Tri-Y headers with merge collectors.

TRANSMISSION

Freshly rebuilt 727 automatic transmission with manual valve body. No expense spared in the rebuild. Also included is an engine and flex plate adaptor to ‘’marry’’ the 727 trans to the R5P7 engine.

WHEELS

Front: Brand new Mickey Thompson Pro 5 wheels mounted on brand new Mickey Thompson 26’’ front runner tires.

Rear: Brand new 15’’x8’’ Stockton Wheel Company steel wheels mounted on a pair of brand new Mickey Thompson 275 drag radial tires.

BRAKES

Front: Brand new Strange front brake kit that includes lightweight hubs, bearings, rotors, calipers, pads and wheel studs.

Rear: Standard OEM drum brakes that are compatible with 5’’x4.5’’ bolt pattern.

SUSPENSION

Front: Brand new Overkill Race Cars chrome moly k-member, upper and lower control arms and coil over shock mount kit along with a manual rack-n-pinion steering unit. Suspension does still need to be finalized but all components are there. If new owner prefers, I will also include the original V8 k-member along with upper and lower control arms that are 5’’x4.5’’ bolt pattern compatible at time of purchase.

Rear: A-body 8 3/4 ’’ rear end that was custom narrowed to allow for better wheel and tire placement and has a 3.91 sure grip third member with Moser axles. Brand new Cal-Trac spilt mono-leafs with a brand new set of Smith Race Craft Max-Trac fully adjustable suspension bars. The rear portion of the leaf springs is mounted on a brand new set of sliders. A lot of time and effort went into achieving the perfect stance/ride height for this build.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
