I have owned this car for about two years and have attended to all maintenance items. I purchased the car from a 90 year old florist in town who had kept the car in a climate controlled garage since she bought it used in 1992 (sales paperwork included). She bought the car with 52k miles and sold it to me with 70k on it. I was told by her children that the only reason she was selling the car was her age and health.
Since I have owned the car I have used it for pleasure and shows. I had the car gone through top to bottom and replaced the timing chain, all tune up items, tires (Michelin Harmony), hoses, belt, cam sensor, crank sensor, freeze plugs (2), front brakes, water pump, all fluids & filters, the headliner, and the hood insulation pad. The engine and transmission rule fantastic and the car just completed a 500 mile (round trip) drive from CT to Maine and back. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere because it feels like a brand new car.
The car came fully loaded from the factory and comes with a copy of the factory invoice from GM's archives. The car has power mirrors (heated), seats (both front buckets), automatic door locks (lock when put into gear), antenna, windows, trunk release/pull down, and fuel door. The interior is gray leather with "Trofeo" embroidered on the seats from the factory. The driver's seat needs repairs (leather torn) but all others are in excellent condition with soft leather. This car has the full floor console with aircraft style shifter and remote cassette deck with graphic eq. The cassette deck does not always work well as the door is hard to fully latch shut (the player works if you hold the door down with gentle pressure) so a used replacement deck comes with the car for the next owner to install. The stereo is am/fm with 6 speakers (all original). The speakers go in and out...possibly due to a bad connection/ground but I never investigated this.
The air conditioning is ice cold and the automatic climate control  functions well. The climate system includes a factory code scanner to check for error codes/etc. It also includes an outside temperature display.
The digital dashboard works perfectly and includes a trip odometer, tachometer, oil life monitor, fuel economy gauge, and other readouts.
The cruise control does not work on this car. When the car is started an error message "Check Cruise System" comes up. My mechanic thought the issue might be a loose connection in the steering column but we never investigated it. All other features including the electronic level control, automatic lights, etc work as designed. The car is equipped with a 3.8 liter V6 (3800) and 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The four wheel disk brakes stop the car securely. There are no leaks, smells, strange sounds, etc this is an honest survivor that needs a good home. The car is currently registered and insured and recently passed the emissions test in CT (it is now exempt here for life due to being 25+ years old). The car has won 3 plaques at All Oldsmobile shows for runner up (2nd and 3rd place in it's class).
The body is in great shape with no rust or major issues. This is a very original car and does have a few minor parking lot dings. All of the trim is there and is in presentable condition. The next owner gets 4 NOS center caps for the alloy wheels that are still in the box. The front air dam is cracked in three spots due to the previous owner (she was 90!) but the car is still very presentable. It is painted a beautiful metallic black with gray and red pin stripes and all black trim.
I am selling this car because I recently purchased a 60's Pontiac and need the room. I don't want to keep this car under a car cover (by the way it comes with a 2 year old NOAH cover that was custom fit for this car and included the carrying bag) because it deserves to be put into someone's collection. I am a Vice President of the local Olds club and an adviser in the OCA. Feel free to ask me any questions you have.

Because the car is for sale locally I reserve the right to end the auction early.
You will not be disappointed with this car. If you want an inexpensive way to join the collector car hobby or have always loved the sporty lines of the 86-89 E body cars then this is for you.

***The tear/wear on the driver's seat doesn't show in the pictures. If you would like pic let me know and I will send it to you (of this or anything else on the car).
*** There are three scratches on the trunk lid that were there when I bought thecar. They are about 3 inches long and are all side by side. These have been filled in with touch up paint but they are noticeable.

On May-25-13 at 18:07:25 PDT, seller added the following information:

Added 5/24/13: The next owner also gets a copy of the factory service manual and an original print ad for the car.
The hoodpad was replaced with a used one from a 1991 Toronado (they are exactly the same).
The car comes with an extra door sill plate (I had to buy two because when I bought the car the "Oldsmobile" emblem was missing off of the driver side one so I replaced it with a used one.

On May-27-13 at 12:38:41 PDT, seller added the following information:

 * The parking brake does not work due to a sensor under the car. This was a problem on these cars since new (I have the factory TSB book that goes with the car showing this has been an issue).

The buyer can also have a set of very worn but complete red leather buckets and the rear seat out of a 1988 Olds Touring Sedan I used to own. While they are in poor condition I did not want to send them to the junk yard and would much rather see them go to a good home.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
