1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal Coupe, Rare Diesel 60000 Original Miles 1 Owner!! on 2040-cars

Year:1979 Mileage:60000
Location:

Gorgeous original condition and SUPER RARE 1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal Coupe Diesel. This car is a 1 owner senior driven car, with 60000 original miles ( 100,000 KMS). This Oldsmobile was garage kept her whole life, and after receiving the "collector status" issues by the insurance company after a thorough process, the Delta 88 has been barely driven in the last 3 years, mainly parked in the garage with occasional weekend use just to keep the fluids flowing and battery in good condition.
Last insured in December 2013, the car has sat a few months and is now finally up for sale.
This is an honest original Delta 88 Royal Coupe, with regular wear and tear, some rust on the doors and some frugal repairs done to it by the original owner . ALL pictures are real, unaltered, just enhanced for you to see the car for what it truly is. All pictures of flawed areas are taken as well, and any curious areas you want pictures of, we will gladly take them and email them to you so you are well informed of this Delta 88's condition.
Receipts, owners manuals, warrantee guide etc are also included with the car, right down to the original Oldsmobile factory correct floor mats.
Appearance Exterior:
8/10 Original condition, what you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. Serious head turner especially when people hear the diesel engine powering this gorgeous Delta 88.
Some scuff's, chipped paint here and there, a scrape on the passenger door, some bubbling rust on rear bumper, top on vinyl roof showing age. WE TOOK PICTURES OF ALL IMPERFECT AREAS FOR YOU TO SEE!
All wheel trims and centre caps intact, nothing is missing at all. Chrome and aluminum trim shines bright.
Appearance Interior:
9.5/10
GM's famous headliner sagging, it is pinned up . The steering wheel trim has some areas of wear, dash pad has one nick in it hard to see, the passenger door panel has a nick in it as well, also in a harder to see area covered by the right side of the dash when the door is closed. That is all for issues of the interior.
Floor Pans/ Trunk floors:
10/10 Perfect
Glass:
10/10 perfect
Tires:
95% on all 4 tires ( 9.5/10 condition)
Power options:
-power windows 10/10
-power brakes 10/10
-power steering 10/10
-dash clock 10/10
-remote mirror adjustment both left and right sides 10/10
-power door locks 10/10
-power seats 10/10
-wipers 10/10
-headlights and bulbs inside vehicle and out including high beams 10/10
-reverse lights 10/10
-brake lights 10/10
-heater fan blower motor 8/10 ( high speed setting not working, all other speeds work)
-rear window defrost 10/10
-turn signals/hazards 10/10
-cruise control is factory with this car, but is not working
-AC is factory with this car, compressor and condenser missing, all other components are intact
-Oddly enough the heater does not work ( fan blows air though ), the heater core is not bypassed, and does not leak, I'm sure its the thermostat selector that has perhaps unhooked itself from the cable to activate cold or hot settings in the car, we did not look into it.
Drivability:
10/10
The car has recent Monroe shocks, smooth clean ride. No noises , rattling, clunking at all. General motors added extra sound proofing to all their car's with Diesel engines , and it really makes the difference.
Engine runs excellent, it takes 2-3 tries when cold, then its a flick of the key(literally....see video) and it starts up no problem when warm. This is a replacement GM good wrench 350 Diesel engine , replaced in 1989. I'm sorry I cannot tell you how many miles are on the engine, however they are very very low miles. I have a video on YOUTUBE of me driving the car at freeway speeds, and I also have a walk around and engine start video, you will be able to see how the engine instantly starts, and see the exhaust while its running. Its quite a nice clean running Diesel for a 1979. Engine has a rear seal sweat, we will be replacing the seal ( involves removing the transmission etc, at our expense, we may change the front seal while its at the shop, just as good measure, front seal does not leak.)
Transmission is perfect, no issues at all, shifts as it should. 10/10
Steering is normal, no pulls, and no pulls when braking, alignment is good. 10/10
Brakes were making a squealing noise AFTER  the car was washed, I'm sure it will go away when it dries up, otherwise the car stops confidently ( not sure what the percent of brake pad is, however brakes were done years ago and low low use of the vehicle since) As it is, its a solid 8/10, due to me not knowing pad life, otherwise 10/10 condition.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
