Offered with no reserve, this is a complete matching numbers Olds Cutlass SX L-33, with it's original 455 Big Block, original 400 Turbo (OD) Transmission and original 12 bolt rear end.  Prior to checking the numbers myself, I knew my car retained the original drive train because I know the history of the car.  The numbers on the block, trans case, dash, protect-o-plate, etc are all guaranteed as matching. After the engine pictures were taken, I put a new air cond. compressor belt on and recharged the unit. The cold air blows strong (45-50 deg range!) It was R134 converted several years ago before I bought the car.

If you know about the Cutlass SX, you know that they were only produced in 1970-71. They could almost be considered a "notchback" Cutlass/442 hybrid.  All got the 455 big block, 400T transmissions and 12 bolt rear ends. This was known as the Y79 performance package, exclusive to the SX.  These cars were not really considered a collectible muscle car until the last ten years or so.  In the two production year runs, there were only 9,374 built.  Since they weren't considered collectible until the last few years, many cars no longer retain the entire original drive train. I have everything in place that proves that this is a real, matching numbers SX. The only thing I am lacking is a build sheet, which A-Body Oldsmobiles built at the Lansing plant did not have.  I do have the protect-o-plate and the build card, which is info pertaining to the body (found behind rear seat). Considering the above, this makes my car a fairly rare, collectible "gentleman's muscle car".

I have had the car for nearly four years and I am the third owner. The car was purchased new in Kansas by a soldier who was stationed here at Fort Gordon in Augusta.  The car has remained here its entire life, which explains the rock solid, rust free body.  Since I have owned the car, I have installed new plugs and wires. I installed a new fan clutch and rebuilt the front end, including all bushings, stiffer springs and shocks.  The brakes were done last year. The exhaust was new three years ago (Super 40 Flowmasters) with Pypes stainless trumpet tips.  The engine is original, from the Rochester carb to the oil pan. The carb was rebuilt right before I bought the car.  Although the motor has never been removed from the car, the heads have been removed at least once (possibly twice) for a valve job. Again, the last was right before I bought the car. The engine runs flawlessly and makes good, smooth power.  There are no funny noises, knocks, pings, smoke etc.  The transmission shifts excellent.  It was rebuilt five years ago.  The rear end functions as it should with no moans or whines. There are no fluid leaks...anywhere!  The car has no rattles, squeaks, etc.

The bumpers are the ones that were on the car when it left Lansing. I had them triple plated two years ago, courtesy of Tri-City plating in Johnson City, TN.  The W25 ram air hood is in great shape. The stainless and glass is all very nice. I put a new windshield in last year (correct internal antenna). The rest of the glass is original.  The vinyl top was professionally installed two years ago.  The body is rock solid, top and bottom.  No holes anywhere...not even scale rust.  The underside is very clean, including the floors, frame, 1/4's and trunk pan.  The trunk is perfect.  The jack and parts have been with the car since new. The PPG Sherwood Green was applied, followed with four coates of clear.  It was sanded down (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500) compounded, buffed and polished.  All SX's came with stainless side trim.  I liked the 442 stripe much better, so I removed the stainless. The black and green really go well together.  The pictures do not do the car justice. The interior is new, except for the door panels. The dash has no cracks and there are no rips or tears anywhere.  The head liner is new, as is the carpet and seat covers.  All SX's came with either full wheel covers, SSI or SSII wheels.  When I bought the car, I saved $500 on the price of the car by letting the 2nd owner keep the original argent SSII wheels, as I knew I was going for the painted steel wheel look.  Turns out that argent SSII's are much rarer than body color SSII's. Oh, well....The tires are newer and in good shape. All gauges work, lights, turn signals, etc. The 442/SX exclusive front fender braces are in place, as shown in the engine bay. Only big block hard tops got the fender braces. (A 350 car or convertible did not get them) All rubber, to include cowl gasket, trunk gasket and all door rubber is new.  This car is registered in the SX455's web site.

I have taken this car on several long overnight trips over the last few years.  It runs and drives like a dream.  It gets looks and compliments everywhere. I love the fact that many car guys have never even heard of an SX.  It speaks of how many are around today.  My name is Andy. please call me with questions at (706) 836-4410.  If you have less than 5 feedback, call me before bidding or I will cancel it.  I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.  Transportation of car is responsibility of the buyer.  The car is titled (clear GA title) in my name.  Bid on my car ONLY if you are serious. No trades. Thanks for looking.

Someone has "stolen" my ad in a fraudulent listing (Item # 161034500372). This has happened twice. If you are serious about my car, call me.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
