About the seller

I make a living by providing accurate descriptions of the vehicles I list for family, friends and estates. I am not a dealer but I do have have clear title to the vehicle and the authority from the owner to complete the transaction.  I will gladly provide any additional details you may require to make an informed bidding decision. 3rd party inspections are welcome. Note that I include pictures of the underside of the car--where much the money gets spent on used cars--information that most sellers apparently would rather not share with you.  I'll tell you everything I can find out about the vehicle--how it's been used, stored and serviced.

I am a mechanical engineer with 40 yrs experience in the vehicle industry.  I’ve raced, toured, modified, repaired and restored motorcycles and cars since college days. I take full responsibility for my descriptions and enjoy a good reputation by making sure there are no surprises at delivery. My auction vehicles have gone to Europe, Mexico, half the lower 48 states and we added Azerbaijan this year.  Never any junk fees, no free TV’s, and no suspenseful consultations with “the sales manager” (that’s me)!

About this 2000 Olds Bravada

This very solid example is a good driver with everything working except the AC which needs the drier unit replaced.  Most of the other AC components have been replaced in the last couple years--new compressor, condenser and lines.

It starts, idles and runs great, transmission shifts smoothly. The underside pictures show a very solid bottom. The pan and frame show surface rust consistent with life in the midwest but everything is very solid underneath.  Never smoked in, the interior shows normal use but no rips or tears;  nice leather seating is showing wear and abrasion mostly on the driver's seat.  No fluid leaks, current on major service items including well known GM v-6 issue of intake manifold gasket replacement.

The Scoop

-has been well maintained--driven daily by daughter of owner

-clean, non-smoking interior

-solid body and chassis with very little rust visible on body

-starts, runs, shifts smoothly

-everything working as expected except AC as noted

-no check engine light

-current on Ohio e-check

-full brake pedal with smooth, progressive, quiet stopping from highway speeds

-Muffler is solid and exhaust quiet

-Underside is remarkably solid--showing the surface corrosion consistent with life in Ohio

Service History (past 25 k miles)

-full engine tune up including distributor cap, plugs, wires

-fuel pump and fuel filter replaced

-power steering fluid cooler, lines, hoses and clamps replaced

-front wheel bearings

-front brakes including rotors, calipers, pads, hoses, lines

Scammers?

Don’t even think about it!  I do not do bundled shipping.  I don’t care if you are in the merchant marine or your late dad was the president of Sri Lanka--if you don’t have a PayPal account we aren’t doing business, period.  And furthermore, please practice your English on more gullible sellers.  The boiler rooms you guys call from are so noisy these days I can hear your buddies in the background asking the same stupid scammer questions:  “So why are you selling your... ‘item’…”  The last scammer who tried to snag my e-mail is probably still trying to figure out how he got 250,000 messages about aluminum siding and free ginzu knives back in his mail. (It helps having a friend with a pHd in computer security).

Bidders' Qualifications:

Feedback less than 10?   You must me an e-mail with your phone number so we can discuss my terms and conditions.   I welcome legitimate international bidders and have sent vehicles to Europe and the middle east but please contact me before bidding to discuss your shipping plans.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
