Car drives beautifully--nice ride, alignment perfect, great steering feel--and is great to look at. Air is cold--new compressor a year or two ago. Brakes have only about 15,000 miles on them. You will not be disappointed in the way it drives. Oldsmobile really hit a home run with this one.

Seats have leather surfaces and are comfortable. Room for five passengers and yet the perfect size for squeezing into tight parking spaces. Has nice fog lights which look great. Meticulously maintained throughout its life--all recommended services performed, and then some.

Windows were professionally tinted a couple of years ago. The sound system is nice--great sounding factory speakers (this is the top-of-the-line GLS model so it included the nice sound system) and a professionally installed Sony radio with CD player and auxiliary line in so you can easily connect your iPhone, iPod, music player, etc.

This is a used car, so there are some issues. I believe in full disclosure, so here they are:
  • There are some cosmetic defects--minor dings and scuffs here and there, including some hail dings. There are small areas on both bumpers where the paint is cracked (see photos). There is a small dent in the front passenger door (see photos). There is a significant ding on the rear driver's side door. There are some spots and scuffs on the interior, almost all of which will come out with a good detailing. The left rear wheel is losing a bit of its luster when compared to the other three wheels. There are some minor vertical scratches on some of the windows from where they have rubbed when being raised and lowered; these are barely noticeable (see photos). In my opinion, none of these defects detract significantly from the vehicle's overall appearance.
  • The covering on the dash is peeling above the steering wheel (see photos). An upholstery shop might be able to do something about it; I'm not sure. I recently purchased a nice dashboard cover (DashMat) designed specifically for the Alero (see photo) but have not yet put it on. It is brand new and I will include it at no additional charge.
  • One tire is fairly new (replaced under road hazard warranty) but the other three will probably need to be replaced in 10,000 to 15,000 miles.
  • The seat belt buckles have plastic covers on them that keep them from sliding too far. The covers have broken off of the front belts (a common problem with this belt design). As a result, the buckles slide a little too far down and can be inconvenient to reach. To prevent that from happening, I put large safety pins on the belts which act as stops for the buckles (see photos).
  • The cover on the driver's side visor vanity mirror has come off. Not sure what would be involved in reattaching it. It is in the glove box.
  • The cap on the coolant reservoir has to be pressed down with your palm before it will engage and screw back on completely.
The car is sold as-is, with no warranty. Winning bidder must deposit $300 within 24 hours of auction close, with the balance payable IN CASH ONLY within 4 days of auction close. No checks of any kind, including cashier's checks, are acceptable.

Please note that any test drives or inspections must be done PRIOR to placing a bid. Once you bid, you are effectively signing a contract to buy the car and are liable for the amount of your bid. Please do not win the auction and show up expecting a test drive before completing the transaction.

All transactions and test drives will be conducted at my bank in the presence of security.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
