The 2014 Nissan Titan is a full size truck with aggressive looks and the capability to back it up. It's edgy angles give the exterior a tough appearance, and that feel is complimented with an interior that is straight forward, pleasantly simplified, and easy to maintain. Sold in two sizes, the King Cab and Crew Cab, they have seven trims between them. Further, depending on which you buy, you will have the ability to transport up to 5 or up to 6 passengers. Standard among all models and trims is the impressive 5.6-Liter V8 Engine with 317 Horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, and a 5-Speed Automatic Transmission. Also standard are Anti-Lock Brakes, Traction Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Variable Assist Power Steering, Tire Pressure Monitor, and Locking Tailgate. Power Windows and Automatic Power Door Locks are offered on all trims except the Base King Cab S. The Titan has various sound systems available depending on what model you purchase as well. The King Cab and Crew Cab S Trims give you an AM FM CD radio, and the SV and PRO-4X Trims in both sizes are offered with an AM FM CD MP3 system. If you purchase the top-of-the-line Crew Cab SL, prepare to be amazed when you listen to the Rockford Fosgate Stereo with Subwoofer. Shoppers have the option between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive on both the King Cab and Crew Cab and all trims except the PRO-4X trims, which are offered exclusively in 4WD. Also available for all trims is the 5.6-liter, Flexible Fuel V8 Engine. Fuel economy between the King Cab and Crew Cab is the same, but the best performer is the Gas Engine with 2WD on either which gets an EPA estimated 13 MPG City and 18 MPG Highway. The best Fuel Economy with the Flexible Fuel engine is when you buy it in 2WD in which case you get 9 MPG City and 13 MPG Highway. The 2014 Nissan Titan is an amazing truck. Spitballs flying between Nissan and Fiat
Thu, 06 Dec 2012At the 2012 LA Auto Show, Fiat brand chief and recently crowned marketing genius, Olivier François, attempted to distance the Fiat 500e from other electric vehicles, asking rhetorically, "Isn't ugliness the worst kind of pollution?" Nissan has apparently taken issue with these comments, feeling slighted for what it considers digs at the Leaf's styling. In a recent interview with Automotive News, Nissan's marketing chief Simon Sproule shot back, "Let's face it, Fiat has not shied away from controversial styling themselves," he continued, "many would describe many of their products as visual pollution." Ouch.
Sproule says that while the 500e is a "me-too" product, made only to appease US emissions regulations, the Leaf is a serious effort at producing an EV. The Nissan marketing boss points out that the Japanese automaker has invested billions in EV development and production facilities, while Fiat will lose $10,000 on every 500e sold.
However sales of the Leaf in the US are down five percent. Nissan sold just 8,330 Leaf's so far this year, but Sproule contends that it has less to do with styling, and more with the charging infrastructure. Sproule also thinks that Nissan hit a balance between styling and practicality with the Leaf: "It's still very recognizable as a five-seat hatchback, fully functioning, absolutely competitive with the packaging of the Golf of any other mainstream vehicle." For a segment where efficiency is king, isn't that what matters most?
2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition loses rear seats, gains performance
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Nissan is adding yet another tier to the GT-R hierarchy for 2014 with the GT-R Track Edition. Debuting at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, the bruiser ditches its back seat in the quest for a lower curb weight, and a set of more seriously bolstered front buckets keep occupants planted once the going gets twisty. The Nürburgring-developed Track Edition offers an integrated carbon fiber front splitter with brake cooling ducts as well as an even harder-core suspension. Engineers swapped the stock bits for special Bilstein DampTronic shocks and paired them with more aggressive springs.
The engine still delivers 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque and still relies on the split-second quickness of the standard GT-R's six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Expect to see just 150 examples of the 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition land on American shores starting this May. In the interim, check out the full press release below for more information.
Nissan's Dacia Duster-based Terrano revealed
Thu, 22 Aug 2013The new Nissan Terrano has appeared in production form after an apparent August 20 launch in India, but the small sport utility vehicle remains sadly aloof from the US market. We've had our eyes on the Terrano ever since we learned it would be produced as an upscale alternative to the Dacia Duster on which it's based, but currently Nissan has no plans to import it here. Blame safety and perhaps emissions laws - the Duster was never designed for our market.
Even with these less-than-high resolution images, it's clear that the beyond the obvious badges, Nissan's signature trapezoidal grille and a slightly altered rear end with new taillights are the biggest visual clues that this is the Terrano, but those with astute eyes will also notice a slightly redesigned hood and blacked-out door pillars instead of the Duster's body-colored items. Either way, it looks to be a handsome, low-cost little brute - the sort of simple and rugged SUV that's hard to come by in today's marketplace.
