You are bidding on a 2004 Nissan 350Z Grand Touring Convertible in very good condition.  It currently has 95,416 miles and mileage will be slightly higher upon the conclusion of the auction as it is the car I drive the most.  I have owned the car for 10 months and have enjoyed every minute of it.  The only reason I am now selling is I need the money.  The only thing I did to the car mechanically was installing a JWT Pop Charger Intake, I do have the original airbox for the new owner to put it back to stock if they would like.  I also had the front and rear bumpers and hood professionally repainted after I purchased it because I wasn't happy with the chips and the general appearance.  The car is extremely mechanically sound and the only thing I have to do is regular oil changes which I have done every 3,000 miles.  Car runs and drives excellent and I get plenty of compliments on the car as it is a sharp looking car.  Car has been garaged since the day I bought it. The car however is used and as such is not perfect it has numerous flaws which I will be forthright in describing.  I have taken many many pictures in order to provide the most accurate representation of the vehicle possible.

Negatives:

- Biggest negative is the convertible top.  There is a large tear on the passenger side by the rear window.  It may be possible to get it fixed but the top may have to be replaced.  It didn't bother me cause it's not leaking inside the car and I barely drove with the top down anyway.

- Passenger Door does not open with the outside door handle it must be opened from the inside

- There is a large deep scratch about 2 inches in length on the passenger side door from a probable keying (shown in picture)

- There are scrapes on the underside of the front bumper from scraping the concrete parking lot spot barriers (only visible if peering under car)

- There are many white spots on the passenger side front quarter panel behind the back of the headlight over an 8 inch area probably due to the clear coat having come off (not visible in direct sunlight, took picture but not very clear)

- There is some fading of the black interior on the center part of the dashboard and the gear shift knob (visible in pictures)

- There is some curb rash on the front drivers side wheel (visible in one of the pictures)

- There are some visible lines in the leather of the seats and a little bit missing on the left side of the drivers seat (visible in the pictures)

- A few other surface scrapes on the bottom of a few quarter panels (visible in pictures)

Nissan: We lose money on each Leaf replacement battery

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Nissan has been playing its cards pretty close to its chest when it comes to the production costs for Leaf battery packs. The company recently put a price on replacement batteries for customers at $5,500 plus the requirement to return the old battery. If the decommissioned battery is worth $1,000 to Nissan, as they have stated, that means the battery costs about $6,500 to make, right? Maybe even less if Nissan wants to turn a profit, as automakers are wont to do? Wrong.
Green Car Reports spoke to Nissan about these battery costs, and found that the automaker actually loses money on selling the replacement battery for the Leaf at the current price. Jeff Kuhlman, Nissan's vice president of global communications said, "Nissan makes zero margin on the replacement program. In fact, we subvent every exchange." All you English majors will know that "subvent" is a fancy way to say "subsidize." Kuhlman added, though, "We have yet to sell one battery as part of the program."
The fact that Nissan offers its replacement batteries for less than it costs to manufacture them is telling of a company both cares about what its customer needs and is dedicated to the success of its product. In this case, both of those things encourage people to give up fossil fuels and adopt electric mobility, which is heartening. As more people switch to battery-powered driving, though, battery technology should become better and cheaper, and the scale of production should cause manufacturing costs to decrease. Eventually, Nissan could easily see itself breaking even selling the Leaf battery replacements.

Nissan unveils Altima-based V8 Supercars [w/videos]

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Good as it is, when we think about the Nissan Altima, the words "V8" or "supercar" are not in our vernacular, but Nissan Motorsports is looking to change all that. After unveiling the race version of its Altima sedan intended for the Australian V8 Supercars series back in October, the four race teams and their cars were revealed yesterday ahead of a preseason test session this weekend.
Two of the Altima racecars will be sponsored by Jack Daniels while the other two will wear Norton (as in Norton Anti-Virus) black-and-yellow livery. The season officially kicks off on March 1, and we'll get to see the V8-powered Altima on US soil from May 17-19 when the V8 Supercars series hits the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Scroll down to watch a couple videos and a press release issued for the team introductions.

Road & Track names its 2013 Performance Car of the Year

Thu, 14 Nov 2013

Road & Track recently staged its first annual Performance Car of the Year test, pitting 13 new and updated performance cars against each other on track, then graduating the top six to a road test before picking a winner. Additionally, the magazine staff picked the best automobiles of the year in eight categories.
But first, let's cover the PCotY segment. Here's the list of cars brought to the comparison test: Audi R8 V10 Plus; BMW 435i; BMW M6 Competition Package; Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51; Ferrari F12 Berlinetta; Ford Fiesta ST; Jaguar F-Type V8 S; Jaguar XFR-S; Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model Wagon; Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series; Mini John Cooper Works GP; Nissan GT-R Track Edition; and Porsche Cayman S.
To find out the results of the comparison, head over to Road & Track's website or check the press release below, where you'll also find the magazine's top-rated vehicles in eight categories. Want more? Head over to the 2013 PCotY hub. But before you do that, take a stab at guessing the winner of PCotY (we'll give you one hint: it isn't a Porsche).
