2003 Mini Cooper S 77,000 Miles, 6 speed manual, Grey cloth seats, Front sliding sunroof rear fixed sunroof, Xenon headlights, Cold AC, Darkest legal ceramic tint on all windows including the sunroofs(cost $500 to have installed). Most of the exterior chrome has been blacked out including- aero package front grill, blacked out belt line, headlight trims painted black, base model black side scuttle trims, smoked scuttle turn signals, Base model fuel door. The engine has had a few upgrades done which include- 15% overdrive supercharger pulley, 2% overdrive aluminum crank pulley, Detroit Tuned bypass valve, DDM Intake, Borla non-s catback exhaust- This uses the same piping size as the stock S model with only one muffler and also has six(yes six!) less 90 bends than the stock exhaust. The car has a Methanol injection kit which I feel is a must for a supercharged car in our hot texas summers. This drops the intake temperature down to ambient or less and also increases the fuel octane to over 100. There is a 3 liter tank in the hatch of the car next to the battery. This lasts 1.5-2 tanks of fuel depending on how hard you drive. I will include 10 gallons of methanol with the sale of the car. Battery has been changed to an Odyssey PC680 which is 1/3 the weight of the original battery. The suspension has been upgraded with Koni Sport Yellow adjustable shocks front and rear, Mini Mania springs, Proflex poly front control arm bushings, Eibach front camber/caster plates, M2 strut tower reinforcement plates, rear adjustable control arm links. Wheels are 16" Konig Feathers with BF Goodrich Sport Comp 205/45/16 tires. Each tire wheel combo is 20lbs less than the stock 17" wheels with run flats. The wheel bolts have also been replaced with Wheel studs and nuts. Front brakes have been upgraded to the John Cooper works calipers and larger rotors with stainless braided lines and Akebono cermaic brake pads. Interior is basically stock except for a bluetooth link to stream audio through the stock radio and an Ian Cull auto up module. The module adds auto up and down to both windows along with the ability to set the traction control to be off by default and for the fog lights to come on every time the headlights are on(normally you have to switch them on every time). Shifter is a B&M short shifter with a Delrin knob. The stock metal knob burned my hand in the summer. Lastly I added a trailer hitch which is hidden inside the rear bumper. There is a little cover you pop off to access the hitch. I used this to carry my bike rack only and never towed anything with the car.

The car is in overall very good shape. It does have some minor dings and scratches which are normal for a car of this age. There is one small dent in the rear hatch(bottom right) which was there when I bought the car along with two scrapes on the top of the bumper( I put touch up paint on these) that happened at the same time. the previous owner told me some one had backed into it downtown. I have changed the oil every 4,000 miles with Royal Purple fully synthetic oil. I also run Royal Purple in the transmission. The supercharger belt was just changed a few weeks ago and the coolant and brake fluid(ATE Super Blue brake fluid was used) were flushed within the last six months.

2014 Mini Cooper

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone from Mini refer to 'go-kart-like handling,' I'd be retired, living on a beautiful piece of coastline somewhere in the Caribbean. Perhaps even on the shores of Puerto Rico, where Mini chose to launch its latest Cooper and Cooper S hatchbacks. As with so many frequently used phrases, though, there is indeed some truth to the cliché - while the Mini Cooper has never actually handled quite like a go kart, it has always had a certain directness in its movements, reacting to steering inputs with an immediacy and fervor unlike most any other automobile meant primarily for the street.
Combine those unique driving dynamics with a sense of fun that permeates the entire brand from pre-sales marketing to the actual sales process itself and you end up with a marketplace success. As an ex-Mini owner myself (a 2009 Cooper S Convertible), I can attest to the kinship felt between fellow Mini drivers who share in the knowledge that they are having more fun than the poor appliance-driving masses sharing the highways and byways of these United States. It's no surprise that the style-conscious US continues to be the marque's single largest market year after year.
This enviable brand perception hasn't been attained without its own fair share of flaws, however. Though the quirky design and massively customizable bits and pieces that have made up the Mini brand's interior philosophy since it was reborn in 2001 have proven somewhat endearing, the Cooper Hardtop's ergonomics have always been an unmitigated disaster. Plus, this is a very small car, with a rear seat that's practically uninhabitable by adult-size occupants. While that adjective seemingly goes hand-in-hand with the brand's name, the modern Cooper has never been as ingeniously packaged as its 1959 forbearer, which offered up as much interior space as possible through innovative engineering and minimalist design. Further, parent company BMW has positioned Mini as a premium brand, so the Cooper's diminutive size has never equated to low prices. And for being such a small car, the Cooper historically hasn't been well-known for its fuel efficiency.

BMW and Mini getting GoPro integration

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The small, high-quality and relatively inexpensive GoPro camera has been revolutionary for Internet video, especially of cars. Imagine how much awesomeness and hilarity we would have missed without them. Finding ways to integrate the cams into performance cars is becoming increasingly popular among automakers, as well. For example, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette has its Performance Data Recorder, and Volkswagen is giving GoPros to early buyers of the 2015 GTI. BMW Group is going straight to the source for its rendition, though, with a new app that allows drivers to control a GoPro from inside of some BMW and Mini vehicles.
In July, owners with 2012 or later models equipped with BMW Apps or Mini Connected can download the new app. There are a few hurdles to jump over, though. Not only do users need a model with the infotainment system, a WiFi-equipped GoPro camera is also required. The app also must be installed on an iPhone connected to the vehicle.
Once all of those stipulations are met, the app can configure and control the GoPro through iDrive and display a nearly live image on the infotainment system. Menus are simplified on-screen but still allow users to select among six camera modes, aim it and start and stop recording. While filming, it shows recording time, battery life and signal strength. While BMW's approach isn't quite as nicely integrated as the Corvette's solution, it's interesting to see automakers working to make filming easier. Scroll down to read the full announcement.

Automotive April Fools' joke roundup [w/videos]

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

Happy April, everyone. And we all know what this first day of the month means: April Fools' Day. Today is a national holiday for pranksters with the Internet acting as a serious enabler, and it's always fun to see what kind of vivid imaginations exist out there in the automotive world. The abundance of fake news gets a little old as the day rolls on, but we did manage to get in a few chuckles thanks to a handful of major automakers and automotive news outlets that got into the pranking spirit this year
Some of our favorites this year includes Subaru showing what happens when you combine a bunch of rumors, a Corvette some may have already thought was a joke or Honda providing some in-car innovation circa the late 1980s. Honestly, we're still waiting for official confirmation from Mitsubishi that the recently introduced 2014 Mirage is an elaborate April Fools' joke using a failed design intended for the 1995 Geo Metro. We dug up as much "official" OEM foolishness we could find, as well as some of our other favorites, and posted them all below.
