~ 1973 Innocenti Mini M120L (chassis AASAS864677M) is believed to be one of about five such cars in North America, and after having been restored with interesting period parts, it is likely the best of the group. Luigi Innocenti hired Marcello Gandini (Miura, Countach, Stratos, BMW, X19) at Bertone to pen the coachwork, and it has many cool features in this pure form before it morphed into the DeTomaso version with big rubber bumpers and Daihatsu power. The car was imported from the UK in 2003, restored cosmetically in 2006, and featured in a six page article in December 2008's Mini Magazine *(see album on Flickr) . The current seller has owned the car since 2007 and has receipts for the $15k he has invested in mechanical upgrades to the BMC drivetrain and suspension. This is a very cool little car that would be hard to replicate worldwide in this condition, much less in the USA.

In the 1970's Innocenti was making their famous Lambretta scooters & were also the sole importer of the British Mini in Italy. The story goes that since they had plenty of classic Mini motors, suspensions & electrical bits. Why not manufacture their own car by simply having an Italian design house build the chassis & use all the readily available British Mini “guts” The Bertone Inno was also considered as a replacement for the Mini in the UK, but that duty ultimately went to the Austin Metro.

This car underwent an interior & exterior restoration in 2006, and has covered 6200 miles since. Everything works correctly right down to the rear window washer pump according to the seller. There are restoration photos here on the website of the previous owner:  kanesworks.com

The car has been photographed at many recent car shows by the likes of Motor Trend and others.

All the running gear is proper BMC Mini stuff, so any replacement parts other than body panels & glass are easily available from Mini Spares, Seven Enterprises, Heritage Garage or Mini Mania. There’s a great forum group in France & several European specialty places that have everything else.

The car has the original 1275cc motor with a single 1 3/4 SU carb. However, the power is up +14% over a normal 1275cc because the Innocenti Factory installed a hotter cam.  It also has the  very rare 12" Italian alloy wheels.

** Additions from 2007-Present include the following:

RC40 Exhaust

Little details like the side markers, the kick-up at the rear of the roof, and the gauge cluster make this a very interesting machine.  Simply a fantastic little car that turns heads & gets everyone to smile.  All the original import paperwork & repair receipts (over $15k) are on file. The car is registered in California where it is smog exempt being pre-1976.

2014 Mini John Cooper Works Paceman All4

The One Mini Should Have Taken Rallying
It needs to be said: Mini using the Countryman as their World Rally Championship racer's bodystyle of choice has done them no favors on the marketing front. And that's what it's all about in motorsports these days: marketing and image. We have just driven the 2014 Mini John Cooper Works Paceman All4 through Frankfurt's surrounding rural areas, and even in thick snow where few souls dared to tread, it has singularly rekindled some faith in the John Cooper Works sub-brand - a glorious name whose credibility has been threatened by portly and somewhat pointless products like the JCW Countryman.
The JCW Paceman is a little quicker than its Countryman relative, a little lighter, hunkered down lower, and better looking. We can't say we're crazy anymore about the stock Chili Red details and black exterior they keep showing us at these launches, but that's just paint. Then there's that projected pricing of $36k-plus that puts us on the verge of yelling "¡No mas!" But the All4 system on our 215-horsepower Paceman worked extremely well when paired with a set of exceptional Pirelli Sottozero Winter 210 Serie II tires (sized 205/55 R17 91H all around). The combination of all-wheel drive and good rubber encouraged us to gradually up the average speed and enthusiasm the further we drove along.

Mini might not replace Paceman, Coupe, Roadster

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

Nobody could argue at this point that Mini (like its parent company BMW) has not mastered the art (if you could call it that) of filling every niche with its own model. But with the third generation of Mini now upon us, some of the company's strategists are asking themselves what the point is of it all.
The outgoing second-generation Mini spawned too many variants to count. So far the new model has only surfaced in hatchback form, but the brand may roll out quite as many variants this time around. Instead it is looking at its lineup in terms of pillars.
The quintessential hatchback we've already seen would be one pillar. The Countryman crossover would be another. And the production version of the new Clubman concept which Mini displayed in Geneva would be a third. A convertible based (like the existing one and the one that came before it) on the hardtop hatchback is likely to follow, but don't expect too many other versions.

Mini goes zany with latest accessories catalog

Tue, 25 Mar 2014

Driving a Mini is most definitely an individualistic choice - one that not everyone would get on board with. So if you're going to go with such a fashion statement, you might as well give it your own sense of style. That's where Mini's new line of accessories come in.
Available for the new third-gen Mini hardtop, the accessories offer buyers the opportunity to customize their retro hatchback as best they see fit. There are roof graphics, accessory lighting, wheel upgrades and mirror caps (like the cartoonish ones pictured at right) just like you would have found in the parts catalog for previous iterations of the Mini, but now the brand is offering four appearance kits it's calling Mini Design Lines.
The kits are color coordinated in either Vivid Green, Speedwell Blue, John Cooper Works Pro (in black, red and grey) and Essential Black and include everything from the interior trim to exterior graphics. They might not be to everyone's taste, but that kinda strikes us as the point. Scope 'em out in the extensive high-res image gallery above and the details in the press release below.
