YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1977 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH 44000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE JULY OF 2013 AND HATE TO GET RID OF IT. IT HAS A 400CI MOTOR THAT STARTS AND SOUNDS PERFECT. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SMOOTH JUST LIKE IT SHOULD AND THIS THING DRIVES LIKE A DREAM. COME PICK IT UP AND DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. IT HAS A NEW HEATER CORE, NEW ALTERNATOR AND A NEW BRAKE LINE IN THE BACK. THE INTERIOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE WITH NO RIPS OR TARES IN THE SEAT BUT THERE ARE 2 SMALL HOLES IN THE HEAD LINER THAT I COULD COVER WITH MY THUMB. IT HAS A.M. RADIO,CRANK WINDOWS AND NO POWER SEATS, THIS MUST BE A BASE MODEL. THE PAINT ON THE CAR HAS SOME PAINT CHIPS AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES WITH VARY VARY LITTLE RUST. THE A/C BLOWS COLD AIR BUT NOT VARY COLD. THE GAS TANK WAS PUT IN BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER BUT THE GAS GAUGE DOESN'T WORK. ALSO THE CRUSE DOESN'T WORK. THE TIRES ARE IN GOOD SHAPE WITH NO DRY ROT. ALL LIGHTS WORK AS THE SHOULD. I BOUGHT THIS CAR TO DRIVE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND TAKE TO THE CRUSE NIGHTS BUT HAVE JUST LOST INTEREST. Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
