1984 Mercury Cougar Ls Sedan 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
White Pigeon, Michigan, United States
My wife & I have owned this car since '92 & are the 2nd owners. We've been the only 2 people driving it the whole time. The 302 V-8 (5.0 Liter Throttle Body Fuel Injected) engine runs fine, Even though the car has 201-K on it. AOD (Automatic with Overdrive) transmission works great too. Radiator is the original one that was re-cored 4 yrs. ago. 8.8" rear axle has 2.70 ratio gears (I believe) & is in good condition as well. Along with this purchase I'm also including a drivers side rust-free door as parts. Engine & trans. (& rear end) are original to the car & never been apart. This vehicle is not to be considered for driving purposes due to severe rust on the unibody near the rear axle area. Trailering it would be a must upon purchase. The only rust free sheetmetal body panels on it are the hood; Roof; & trunk lid. It would be an excellent parts car for one this same yr. or you could use the drivetrain for another project car. It also has a rack & pinion steering set-up that could be used in another project. Car is 100% complete & you can hear it run upon purchase & it could even be driven onto a car trailer for transit to your location, Per buyer expense. I have this priced near what the scrap price is in our local area, But hate to do that if someone can use the drivetrain or other parts from it. I'd still be driving it if the Michigan winters wouldn't have caught up to it. Drivetrain has a lot of life left. (It was parked just recently). Thank you for checking out my listing!!! |

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey
Wed, 09 Jan 2013The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.

If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
