1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible
Rare 1969 Mercury Cougar convertible, 1st year of the convertible. *Original 351 Windsor V8 engine and automatic transmission, runs. * Milage is most likely only rolled over once. Car has been minimally driven since 1986 (less than 100 miles per year) * dual exhaust, in relatively good condition * power steering, works fine * power top, works fine * Original clock, does not work. * bucket seats, vinyl is ripped and needs new skins (worse on the drivers seat) * back seat is in pretty good condition with the exception of a small hole about the size of a cigarette (we never smoked in this car). * console, is in ok condition, some of the black is worn away. * hide away headlights, vacuum operated and work. * sequential tail lights, sometimes they are sequential, sometimes they just stick on. * Cragar steel wheels in good condition * The convertible top has rips and the rear window is missing but the power function works fine, Expect that. * There is a newer style clock in the dashboard on the passenger side, it is non-functional. * The car has been in the garage for the past 28 years. * Paint is not original but it is painted the original color of the car. The color is wimbleton white * Complete but needs work and/or restoration. The uni-body construction is deteriorated and needs rocker panels, and torque boxes. This has been repaired to some extent in the past and the floor pans are newer. I know nothing about how this frame is constructed or the extent of the damage to these parts, please do your due diligence and look at the photos. Clean title (Green) Please remember that this is a 45 year old automobile that is pre-owned vehicle so please don't expect a new car. This car is sold as-is with no warranty. In person inspections are welcome and encouraged by appointment. I reserve the right to cancel the listing at any time. SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY PLEASE. Video of 1969 Mercury Cougar: |

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls
Tue, 04 Nov 2014
Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs
Mon, 11 Mar 2013It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
