1980 Mercedes 450sl Garaged Immaculate No Rust Convertible No Reserve on 2040-cars

Immaculate garaged 450SL - No Rust - no reserve

This car has been driven approximately 3,000 miles per year.  It has 103,000 original miles.  This car has had 2 owners. The 1st owner had it garaged in Manhattan.  2nd owner had it garaged in CT.

We had planned to repaint the car in the original 172G - Glasurit anthracite gray, however enthusiasts will not let us do this so this car has the original paint and original interior.

The car has been powder coated from the dealer so the body and frame are fine.

There are 2 items we would replace:
Exhaust.  We wanted to leave this up to the buyer to put a stainless steel T304 system in, to last a lifetime.  The exhaust does show rust and eventually will need replacing, albeit has no leaks currently.  The A/C unit also doesn't blow cold enough for our liking.  There is a common Climate Control Servo upgrade that owners perform for this car because Mercedes decided to use GM parts for the climate control.

The interior is showroom quality.

New items:

Brand new soft top $400
Brand new front / rear bumper $1,500
Brand new fuel system $750
Brand new brakes / rotors $500
Brand new front windshield $250

Replaced weather stripping on drivers / passenger doors.

+ others (too many to list as they are minor)

we just had it detailed for $200
Like new interior.  The interior is near showroom quality.
Like new hard top with support stand.  The headliner is like new.
Car cover $100
Original shop manuals $300
Original manual

The paint on this car is rare.  This is a ghost color 172G that Mercedes stopped making and is the last year of the 450SL.  The interior still has the original leather smell.

This car is 34 years old.. There are some minor dings on the body and some other signs of wear from a car this old however this will be one of the nicest Mercedes you will find.

Original Becker stereo fully working.

Original Mercedes cup holders.

Car runs and drives very smooth. Tires have 90% tread remaining.

We just did a $3,000 vehicle inspection / parts replacement

172G - Glasurit paint code which is the anthracite dark gray metallic with clear coat

Test drive the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive with Chris Harris

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

It's hard to not like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. The all-aluminum coupe is fitted with a wonderful naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only does the burly combustion engine launch the two-seater to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, but it does so with one of the world's greatest exhaust soundtracks as it roars, burbles and cackles down the road.
But what happens when Mercedes-Benz takes away the V8 and its accompanying fire-burning song? Stripped of one of its most appealing assets, does the SLS lose its soul?
Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a track spin in Europe. Sans gasoline, but with four electric motors providing a combined 740 horsepower (737 pound-feet of torque), all-electric all-wheel drive coupe uses sophisticated torque vectoring and a multi-mode operating system to put oversteer - drifting! - back into the equation. Fun? You bet. See for yourself, below.

Aston Martin and Daimler continue talks on SUV project, CEO required

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

The Aston Martin Lagonda SUV concept revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show didn't earn the plaudits the company is used to when it reveals new models, and it has lived an uncertain life ever since. Thought to have been scrapped along with the entire revival of the Lagonda brand, then thought to have been resurrected due to Chinese, Middle Eastern and Russian demand, another year passed before we heard more definitive talk about an Aston Martin expansion when AutoCar reported that the Lagonda could be built on one of Mercedes-Benz's AMG SUV platforms.
A report in Automotive News Europe indicates plans have gotten serious, its unnamed sources saying that the English carmaker is talking to Daimler "to extend their cooperation to building an SUV." Neither Daimler, Aston Martin nor Investindustrial, the managing partner among Aston Martin's ownership consortium, would comment. But with Investindustrial having pledged to expand the range, competitors like Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini getting into the SUV racket and clear demand from current and future customers, it's easy to believe Aston Martin is working hard to put the pieces together.
One further potential bump on the road to an Aston SUV is the company's search for a new CEO. Ulrich Bez relinquished to top spot at the company at the end of 2013, and Aston reportedly will not finalize its model strategy without a new CEO in place.

Mercedes AMG and Cigarette Racing debut 2,220-HP electric motor boat

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, stretch it and take off the wheels then make it float and you've basically got the just-unveiled Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept. Powered by an all-electric powertrain that offers 2,200 horsepower and 2,213 pound-feet of torque (and uses "numerous components" taken from the not-quite-as-yellow SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive), the sleek concept is being called the "world's most powerful electric drive powerboat." What that means is a top speed of over 100 miles per hour from four 60-kWh lithium-ion batteries and two banks of six liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. And the 240 kWh of total energy should provide plenty of juice out on the water.
Launched (but not literally) at the Miami International Boat Show today, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is the result of a partnership between Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing. The boat is 38 feet long (much longer than the 15-foot SLS) and is plastered with AMG branding on the sides and top of the bow above the matte chrome yellow paint (officially called AMG Electricbeam mango). Two 220-kW chargers can refill the batteries, dockside, in about seven hours.
The idea of a powerful electric boat is nothing new (Henrik Fisker talked about a plug-in hybrid watercraft late last year), but this is the first time we've seen Mercedes put its EV technology on the water. Anyone who's afraid of driving an EV in the rain should take note. Check out the complete press release below.
