Absolutely Stunning 1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SE Sedan!

480 - Manganese Brown Metallic with 255 - Beige Leather interior!

One of the finest remaining examples of a W126 Mercedes-Benz in existence!

This vehicle has ONLY 29K FULLY DOCUMENTED MILES!

History:

This vehicle was purchased new on March 17, 1984 at Loeber Motors, Inc. in Chicago, IL.  It had an original MSRP of $44,024.00.  This vehicle was then transported from the Chicago dealership to its home in Beverly Hills, CA.  Its entire life has been spent in the fair, rust-free Southern California climate.  Obviously, this automobile has been driven sparingly over the past 29 years to say the least.  When not driven, the vehicle was stored in a climate controlled garage.

We purchased this vehicle from the original owner with the intention of using it as a daily driver.  However, we have since decided this vehicle has been cared for much too deeply to use as a daily driver in Los Angeles.  For this reason, we have decided to offer it up for auction to a good home where it can be cared for as it has been since new.

Physical Condition:

Exterior:  The exterior of this vehicle is in exceptional condition!  The paint is very glossy.  There is a minor 1 1/2 scratch on the hood of the vehicle (photo available upon request).  All of the chrome on the vehicle is in exceptional condition.  There are a few dings present on the vehicle.  Most should be able to be removed by a professional (photos available upon request).  Overall, as displayed in the photos, the exterior of this vehicle is in near-new condition!

Interior:  Upon entering the interior of this vehicle you are greeted by the pleasant aroma of the premium leather interior.  The leather is plush and in excellent condition.  There is a slight, approximate 2 inch stress crack in the upholstery on the rear seat.  The Zebrano wood trim in the vehicle is dark and glossy.  The dashboard and headliner are in excellent condition, showing no signs of age as well.  The Automatic Climate Control functions perfectly, very hot in the winter, and very cold in the summer.  There are no problems with the air distribution of the system.  The original Becker Grand Prix Electronic radio works perfectly.  All seat controls work smoothly and as they should.  The power sliding sunroof operates flawlessly.  The carpets are in excellent condition with absolutely no staining.  There is no evidence that anyone has ever eaten or drank in this vehicle!

Glass:  All glass on the vehicle is original, and in new condition!  There is no pitting or cracks present on the windsheild, the original Daimler-Benz decal in present.  There is no discoloration on the corners of the rear window.  The rear window defogger works perfectly, no elements are defective.

Wheels:  All 4 wheels are original and perfect.  There is no oxidation or curb rash present on any of them.  They are fitted with Michelin MXV-4 Plus tires with less than 3,000 miles on them.  The spare tire is original and has never been used.  It is fitted with a matching Michelin tire that was replaced at the same time.  The factory tool kit is present and complete.

Mechanical Condition:

This vehicle has been serviced religously starting with its 1,000 mile inspection performed in March of 1985.  A single folder containing the entire service history, OVER $16,000 in Maintenance receipts, will go to the new owner.

Here is an overview of some items that have been updated or replaced:

-Mono Valve

-8 New Fuel Injectors, Seals, and Guides

-New Fuel Pump, New Fuel Accumulator,

-New Ignition Wire Set and Distributor Rotor

-New Water Pump

-New Steering Gearbox

-New A/C Compressor, entire A/C system converted to R134a

-New Steering Shock

The following items are included with this vehicle:

-Original Window Sticker

-Folder with COMPLETE Service History

-Original 1984 Mercedes-Benz Sales Brochure

-Original Herschmann Antenna Cleaning Kit

-Original Becker Cassette Cleaning Tape

Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.

Mercedes-AMG considering turbo fours, hybrid sixes for future performance sedans

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

Think of the letters AMG and you'll probably end up picturing a performance sedan with a big V8. Such has become, after all, the Mercedes turning division's calling card. But with the introduction of its 2.0-liter turbo four, AMG is working at turning that notion on its head.
The highly potent engine produces 355 horsepower and is presently installed in the A45 AMG hatchback, CLA45 AMG sedan and GLA45 AMG crossover, giving Benz's smallest family a full range of performance models. But that might not be the full extent of the high-strung four-pot's use.
Speaking with AMG boss Tobias Moers, Britain's What Car? magazine reports that Affalterbach is considering slotting the same engine into larger models, particularly performance sedans like the C-Class. As we recently reported, Mercedes is already preparing to up the power from the turbo V6 in the C400 to slot a C450 Sport in below the C63 AMG. The C450 is expected to offer around 367 horsepower where the CLA45 AMG et al pack 355, but the lighter weight of the four-cylinder engine would likely offset the truancy of those extra dozen horses. Of course such a prospect would be much further down the pipeline than the C450 Sport which is expected to arrive much sooner.

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.
