What separates this car from most is in fact it is a one owner Southern California car since new! He is a family friend of mine and is very honest and trustworthy. It was babied it's entire life by a southern California prominent doctor who drove this car to and from work and to and from the country club. This car was garaged it's entire life in the upscale city of Villa Park CA. For those of you who know this neighborhood it is like the Beverly Hills of Orange County. No expense was spared when keeping this car tip top since new. Always serviced by Mercedes Benz certified mechanics. The previous owner loved this car and can have very well bought many other newer models over the 31 years he owned this car. When I asked him why he kept this particular car so long his answer was simple. "Always trouble free, very reliable, and a joy to drive". Period!
This car is all original and has the well known bullet proof Mercedes 5 cylinder turbo diesel motor that shows just under 250,000 original highway miles. Of course you know that this kind of miles on a Mercedes diesel is far from it's life expectancy. Especially considering who owned this car since new. A million miles is not unheard of. Just ask any Mercedes certified diesel mechanic what you can expect from this type of motor. The transmission shifts perfectly and this car drives down the highway going 80 MPH like it was on rails. VERY RELIABLE car for VERY CHEAP! Everything mechanically works as new except the A/C does not blow cold. The engine compartment is as clean and detailed as they come and again just oozes the meticulous nature of the previous owner.
The exterior show so nice with hardly any flaws at all. The paint shines EXCEPTIONALLY well! This car was detailed often and believe me it shows! Again garaged it's entire life at home, at the hospital, and even at the country club! You will not be disappointed when examining the exterior quality and shine. Just gorgeous! I can only find one ding by the rear license plate and a few dings on the passenger side doors from being garaged. But these few dings can easily be repaired by a Dent Repair Specialist without having to re-paint. A few rock chips on the bottom portion of the front clip but WOW! You can tell how well this car has been cared for. It wears 99% of it's original paint since new. Only one VERY MINOR bump in the front bumper that took only a couple of days at the local Mercedes body shop to fix. Otherwise this car has never been involved in a accident! The under carriage shows ZERO rust and is VERY clean.
The interior shows very well for it's age but does have a couple of minor flaws. It has a aftermarket stereo since the original was stolen many years ago. The front seats has some leather cracking and the leather on the center door posts seem droopy. A minor interior detail would really bring out the quality the leather still retains. Very nice interior with just a couple of flaws. Please see the photos and the attachment to PhotoBucket for many quality detailed photos.
Just come and see this car. For being 31 years old this car is fantastic! Where can you get a 4-door Mercedes that runs and drives exceptional, has a clear title, owned by a doctor in southern California since new for VERY cheap?

France formally moves to ban Mercedes vehicles using contested refrigerant

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

That didn't take long. Shortly after a French administrative court gave the French government a ten-day window to reconsider its ban on registrations of Mercedes-Benz A-, B- and CLA-Class cars using the prohibited R134a refrigerant, the government cited an EU directive to formalize banning the sale of the cars. The country's environmental ministry said that registrations "will remain forbidden in France as long as the company does not to conform to European regulations," meaning so long as they do not use the approved R1234yf refrigerant.
Daimler had won the administrative court decision by challenging France's application of a "safeguard" provision in which the EU allows a country to block sales of cars that would "seriously harm the environment." In spite of Daimler's victory, France has cited that very provision as basis for the continuation of the ban.
Daimler got permission from Germany's KBA federal motor authority to keep selling cars with the coolant banned by EU politicians, and is using that national permission as the right to sell the cars throughout Europe. Meanwhile, above that battle, German politicians are asking the EU to let Mercedes sell the cars in France while the KBA does more testing, at the same time as the EU is threatening Germany with repercussions if it doesn't bring the KBA and Daimler into line.

Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.
