You are bidding on a 1978 Mercedes 450 SEL.  This is essentially a one owner car. I am listing for a friend of mine.  His mother bought this car new in 1978  from Carson-Petit Mercedes Benz in West Chester PA.  She passed away in 1984 and the car has been stored either under cover in summer or in a garage/barn in winter months.  This car is in unbelievable condition.  The car has the typical or normal patina for a car that is 35 years old.  It shows some fading on the trunk lid but overall I consider it in very good condition.  One or two small dings on the entire car.  The body is straight and the car has no rust.  The speedometer was replaced by a local repair shop when the car was about 64k miles.  We are guessing the car is somewhere in the low 70k range at this time.  It runs great and has been on the road this summer traveling more than 125 miles.  The front seats have dry rotted a bit but driver's side has sheepskin cover. The dash and gauges are near perfect.  NO cracks in the dash. I noticed a small leak in the exhaust/muffler. Not a bad leak but it is there.  The car stops great and steers great.  Tires are good. Radio works sometimes. OK here is my opinion, like it or not.  You can drive this car and enjoy it.  You can restore it to new condition or you can part it out.  (by the way, this is a perfect candidate for a restoration)  If I was able I would restore it myself..  This is a very very solid SEL .  Rarely will you see an unrestored 78 in this condition. We are setting the reserve at what I consider "buyer friendly".  This is a great one owner car. The owner is loosing his inside storage and has decided to sell. That's it. No more no less. Any questions please call at a reasonable hour and I will try and answer. Karl   610-368-3673

Next Mercedes S-Class stretching into this 600 Pullman limo

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

To the concern of nobody in particular, Mercedes-Benz will not be re-upping its Maybach line of ultra-luxury limousines. No, instead the German automaker will be stretching its already roomy S-Class, to make this upcoming 600 Pullman version of the decked-out beast.
The car in our new gallery of spy shots is sporting beefy B-pillars and a massive set of rear doors that should allow perfectly graceful ingress and egress from what is likely to be a palatial rear space. (In one photo we can even see a long-wheelbase S-Class in line with the new Pullman, handily exhibiting the size of the new variant.) The exterior modifications are otherwise obscured, though we can guess at revised front and rear fascia and lighting elements, based on both end being heavily taped for these test runs.
It's a good bet that the Pullman will make use of M-B's twin-turbocharged V12 engine, though sources indicate that a hybrid version might eventually be in the offing, as well.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.

Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.
