This is a last model year w109 300 SEL 4.5 sedan.  It is the 300 version, so it has air suspension, power sun roof and wood trim around the windows and in the door panels.  There were just about 1000 of these ever made for the US market.

She is in need of a good restoration, and is not drivable at the moment.  The fuel lines have rusted out, so she will spray fuel out while the engine is running. I've only put a few gallons in to move her, and she starts up fine and the air conditioning still blows cold.  The fuse is blown for the heat fan, and I'm not sure what is causing it, but the levers all move properly.

She has sat in a barn for quite a while now, and is very rusty underneath and will need work done on the floors, fuel lines and air suspension lines, but I do not know the full extent, as I don't have a lift.  All the windows work, the sun roof opens, wipers work, the locks half worked, but I couldn't have her running long enough to generate full vacuum.  There is also a crack in the front windshield and the tires are dry.  The chrome is all shiny and the wood trim is not cracked.  The original radio turns on, but doesn't get a very good signal.

The odometer stopped turning a while ago, so I'm not sure of the exact mileage.  The speedometer and all of the other gauges work perfectly fine.  I'm also not sure if the clock keeps accurate time, but it does work.

This car has been in the family for quite a long time and honestly it's a bit painful to sell her.  She was driven up to about 5 years ago and then was stored.  I always had high hopes of having the time, know how and money to restore her, but that just isn't going to be a possibility, even as much as I dream it could be.  So I hope she can find a good home!

Please contact me for any questions you may have or for more pictures.  I've put up as many as eBay will allow, but have or can take any you would like.

Buyer will be responsible for transporting her.  Flatbed or car carrier where all 4 wheels are off the ground is recommended for any Mercedes, but especially for her because of the flat suspension.  The car is not drivable at this time.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class revealed again in 1:18 scale

Fri, 10 May 2013

There is plenty to look forward to when it comes to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but it could end up being a fairly anticlimactic reveal thanks to fully exposed spy shots, a leaked press photo and now images of a diecast version of the luxury sedan. Autoweek.nl has images showing a highly detailed 1:18 scale model of the redesigned S-Class that matches up with everything we've seen so far.
This isn't the first time a model car spoiled a new vehicle's reveal, as the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and 2013 SRT Viper were both unceremoniously revealed in toy form first. World Car Fans is reporting that the car 2014 S-Class will be officially unveiled on May 15, but at this point, all that's left to wonder about is the official on-sale date and what will be under the hood.
