This is a great value on a desirable Mercedes Convertible. I thought I had an agreement with a buyer last week, but....please do make sure you have your arrangements made if you bid, thanks

This is a 1994 E320 Cabriolet. It's a highly desired model among Benz geeks, and only a few thousand were sold in America from 1992 to 1995. This car has the latest updates that were availaable in this chassis, and that would include the "last of the best" inline 6 engine, along with the 4 valve cylinder head. THe most noticable difference is the updated hood, grille, and lights that look so much better, and a slightly nicer steering wheel and a bit nicer interior trim.

Think a 121k mile car can't be this nice? Then keep looking. It has lived most of its life in the South, and it shows. Let me also mention that this is a USA model, sold at a franchised Mercedes dealer, not a grey market or privately imported car. Take a look at a few of the pictures below. Several were taken at a recent Mercedes Benz club regional concours, that is, a competition that judges condition and cleanliness. This car had a raw score of 95.61 on a 100 scale. Note the judges gatherd round with their score sheets and flashlights? Yes, it's that clean. The #744 Brilliant Silver paint has a terrific feel and texture. Interior is super nice. In fact, at the same show, it won the award for third place in the "Best Interior" class out of approximately 30 Mercedes cars. It has been living in our area since about 2000, owned by a local banker and his wife who used it for fun (they recently traded this car for a new E class convertible). The best Mercedes indy in our town has worked on it for the past 8-9 years. I would encourage you to call him and chat with him. He will give you good and honest information.

Cosmetics:

Paint, leather, glass, plastics and carpets on this car are excellent. Windshield looks nice and is MB original. I recently had it color sanded and buffed by our best local enthusiast shop. I have further rubbed and polished it with products from Griot's, Meguiars, and Mothers. I am a nearly 40 year Mercedes geek, participate in local and regional Mercedes events, and an off and on member of MBCA for nearly 30 years. I tell you this only to let you know: 1) this is an exceptional car, not some hunk on a crappy car lot, and 2) that you are dealing with someone who knows, understands and speaks the Mercedes language. More Details:

The top is about 18 months old and looks beautiful. inside and out. Over the past 20k miles or so, I believe every hydrolock assembly has been replaced or rebuilt, so there are no issues there. Very snug fit at the header, motor runs strong, very air and water tight. As mentioned above the rest of the interior is beautiful as well. Seats are great, structurally proper, and all power functions work correctly, as well as windows, central locking from all positions, cruise, and power windows. Dash, door cards, carpets, all excellent or better. .I also replaced the original steering wheel with a nearly new one ( for cuts and ring marks). The current radio is a nice Pioneer single slot CD with USB  and aux connection. I DO have the original MB radio and will include it as well. I also replaced the factory electric antenna with a rebuilt one (common failure item). I have the original factory wind deflector, but not the storage bag.

Mechanicals:

She is very sound. I just returned from a nearly 600 mile trip last weekend without one hitch. She got nearly 25 mpg on the road and was a pleasure to drive. Starts on the first tiwst of the key and has a recent battery. No warning lights. AC is super cold and in the proper direction. Brakes are up, no shake or shudder, and the tranny shifts right with no issues. You can also see from the under hood pix that the radiator is quite fresh as well (replaced at 115k). I have very detailed receipts for the past 8-9 years, and the Mercedes Master History as well, all in a niicely organized "baby book". Wheels look nice, two have some light curbing. I put new Michelins on all four corners about 800 miles ago..I have also freshly installed new shift bushings, rear trunk shocks, the drive gear for the auto seat belt retractor (most of these are broken) and a new outside temp sensor.

You may note that the Autocheck report shows a "minor" in 2005. She was touched at a stop in traffic, at the back of the left rear corner. Without a paint meter (I have an expensive one), I believe you would have great difficulty finding it. The shop that I mentioned above (who sanded and buffed it for me) is the one who did the work. He is an artist. I just want to make sure that I"m not glossing over that. Even with that on the Autocheck report, it still scores a 36--on a 36 scale.

Flaws/Issues:

This is a 19 year old car, and cannot be perfect. But I do my best to get as close as I reasonably can! These cars are quite reliable, and to me, some of the best cars ever made by Mercedes Benz. It has two mechanical flaws: the cylinder head gaskets on these cars are known to leak oil. This one has had the job done once, but there are now some small leaks returning. They are VERY small. If you leave the car parked in your garage for several days, you will see some small oil leaks. I would not repair it. I just cannot recommend that you take apart an engine that runs this well, gets great fuel economy, and is so trouble free. 2) They don't need to be done today, but she is headed for replacement on the engine mounts, again, a common repair item on these cars. I have already bought the mounts, and will include them in the price. A good shop will charge 2/3 hours labor to do the job. The only other issue I see is that the mirror covers are missing on the sunvisors. New ones from your Benz store are insanely priced. I have searched high and low but have not found a black replacement set for the convertible. You can usually find them on ebay, but there are none at this minute.

It is properly detailed (obviously) and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. I have the manuals/pouch, two master keys, and of course the baby book. The lien freee title is in my files. Yes, I know you can buy one of these cars for a little less. But the rough ones are SO rough, and cost so much to get right-- and you still have a "not so nice" car. You could also buy one of the fabulous garage queens for sale with 30-50,000 miles. But they are TWICE or THREE TIMES the price of this car--and you can't drive them for fear of losing that big investment. This car is fairly priced, and you can drive it without worry, or thousands of dollars of depreciation.

I am 32 years in the business and I play by the Golden Rule. Please check out my simple and low pressure way of doing business at www.encoremacon.com. My Ebay feedback is 100%--please check the comments. I am just south of Atlanta Hartsfield airport and can help you with transport, or a long distance transaction. I have been doing them for many years, and will do my best for you to have a fun and easy experience.

I would challenge you to find a nicer, rarer, and better condition convertible in this price range. Great fun, safe, reliable, and a pleasure to drive--with an honest seller.--the right comibinatioin!

Paul di Resta returns to DTM with Mercedes

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Some drivers manage to make the transition from one form of motor racing into another, and some run into trouble. Take Paul di Resta, for example. The promising young Scottish driver dominated Formula 3 racing in Europe in 2006, then moved over to Germany's hugely competitive DTM touring car series where he finished second in 2008, third in 2009 and first in 2010. But things didn't go as smoothly for Paul - cousin to retired Indy champion Dario Franchitti - when he moved in to Formula One with the Force India team.
In three years on the grid, he failed to score a single podium finish. Little surprise, then, that Force India opted not to renew his contract for this season. Left without a ride, di Resta is now going back to DTM with longtime supporter Mercedes-Benz, testing the new C-Class touring car today in Portugal. It's good news for Mercedes, which is celebrating 120 years in motor racing this season and, with 2005 champion Gary Paffett also on board, can now count two former champions on its DTM roster.
We wouldn't count Paul out of F1 for good, though. When he won the DTM title four years ago, he was also moonlighting as Force India's test driver, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him pull similar double-duty with the Mercedes F1 team (or another Benz-powered outfit) this year before spring-boarding back into grand prix racing in the future. At 27 years old, he may not have been the youngest driver on the grid this year, but he's still got a good few years ahead of him.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class interior caught in spy shots

Tue, 29 Jan 2013

With the redesigned 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class getting closer to production, the camera-wielding crew over at Autospies somehow managed to get inside of the car to snap some detailed spy shots. As the prototypes continue to shed camouflage, it would appear that Mercedes-Benz is getting closer to unveiling the car, and with the Geneva and New York auto shows coming up, it could be sooner rather than later.
From what we can see of this car's interior, the overall look of the S-Class' cabin isn't a ground-breaking departure from the current car, but it has been completely redesigned with more advanced technology. The styling is now even more upscale with larger swaths of wood, more shapely door panels (without the built-in armrest cubbies) and the concept-like two-spoke steering wheel. The highlight of this car though is probably the two massive digital screens with one being used for driver information and the other used for navigation, audio and infotainment systems. One other detail we noticed about this car is that it was equipped with the new 360-degree camera that debuted on the new GL-Class and will also be used on the 2014 E-Class. We also know that the next-gen S-Class will be getting the new cloud-based MBrace2 infotainment system.
As for the exterior design, it looks like the next S-Class will carry a similar profile as the current car, but we can see through the camouflage that the new styling will fit in better with current Mercedes-Benz products. Up front, the grille is much larger is flanked by aggressive LED-trimmed headlights, while the rear view of the car shows us the LED brake light now at the top of the rear window, a more pointed trunk opening and a more squared-off rear fascia with exhaust outlets pushed to the corners.

Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG officially teased in mini video

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The followup to the Mercedes-Benz S550, the S63 AMG, will sport a biturbocharged V8 that will likely turn out around 550 horsepower. The new engine is probably the 5.5-liter, biturbocharged V-8 that's been popping up in everything from the ML63 to the E63 AMG. The front fascia is more aggressive, which shouldn't come as a surprise, while a meaty exhaust setup can be found out back.
We managed to pick all that up from a short, 17-second video posted by MB. The original video that unveiled the S63 AMG has since been pulled down, making this YouTube clip the best look we now have at the new super sedan, at least until the Germans give up the goods for real.
Be sure to check out the video below, along with our original posting on the S63 AMG.
