Clean 2004 Mercedes-Benz E500 (like E320 and E-350) Estate wagon with 5.0 fuel injected V8 engine and 4Matic all wheel drive. This is a 7 passenger vehicle with fold-down third row seat and power moonroof / sunroof.

The vehicle cosmetics are excellent. The car drives extremely well: great handling, excess power, and remarkably good gas mileage. This is a smoke free interior. It has never been off-roaded or abused in any way. There is zero rust. It is clean inside and out. There are Mercedes black rubber mats that can be seen in some of the photos. The light grey carpet underneath is clean. There is some very minor fading and staining of the carpet in the cargo area.

The paint appears to be all original. I have checked the car very closely. There does not appear to be any body work whatsoever. My photographs show the metallic paint under varying light conditions. The color is always consistent. There are very few rock chips in the front of the bonnet. The shine of the original paint is superb.

We are the third owners on this car. The bit of history I know is that this was originally a dealership lease vehicle from Texas. There were two subsequent transfers of title, one of which appears to have the original owner buying out the lease. We purchased the car from the employee of a local authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership in August of 2011. It was his personal car and extremely well maintained. He printed up the full service history of the vehicle which also came with an extended warranty.

We have had no issues with the car. The local authorized dealer has just replaced a recall brake booster under warranty We paid for the replacement of all 4 air ride suspension bolster components. We kept up with regular maintenance and drove the car 24,000 miles in two years. My wife upgraded to a G-class this summer and we got a much better deal by not trading in our wagon. After much discussion we have decided not to hang onto this wagon as a third vehicle.

This is a 10 year old used vehicle. There are the usual blemishes, small scrapes and dings. This is NOT a new car.  Please review this long list of known defects:

1. There are approximately 10 very small dings (roughly 1/2 inch in diameter) that look like door dings in odd places. These are from kids skating around the car in our driveway. The dings are distributed randomly at roughly 2 feet off the ground. There is little or no associated damage to the paint. Just those 10 or so small indentations from children's hands.

2. There is a small ship in the chrome trim on the right hand side of the front bumper and a scrape on the front spoiler at the lower left hand side on the front of the vehicle. The spoiler remains in excellent condition unlike most of the wagons I see. Both of these minor imperfections are shown in my photographs.

3. The lower cushion of the drivers seat has been reupholstered in factory leather but the color did not quite match. It was resprayed to match and some of that color is wearing in the grooves of the leather. I have attempted to show this very clearly in one of the listing photos. The seat itself is in excellent condition, but there is a different shade of grey starting to show in the creases. Obviously this can be resprayed.

4. The left front visor gets lazy and drops halfway after a short distance of driving.

5. The center console cup holder gets sticky and often refuses to ascend. I had it cleaned and lubricated. It worked fine for a spell. Now it's lazy again.

6. The front tires are near new. The matching rear radials will need to be replaced in a just a few miles.

7. I presume it is the U-joints in the front drive that need replacing. There is a thumping sound to be heard clearly when the steering is turned in either direction while moving at slow speeds. Does not affect vehicle operation. This is a more recent development NOT related to any sort of mishap. We would normally be fixing this but since we have decided to let the wagon go, we prefer to sell as-is. This is a Mercedes and most any repair may carry a hefty price tag. If such a repair is of major concern, please have the vehicle inspected prior to placing a bid.

8. There is a very small tear ( approx. 3/4" long) at the bottom center of the rear bench seat. This was the result of folding down the seat with a small toy caught in the back. It does not require repair.

9. The plastic lens protecting the headlights is beginning to show its age but these lenses still look considerably better than those on some other late model Mercedes car I have observed.

10. This car originally shipped with a light grey leather steering wheel which became quite discolored and unappealing recently. Our mechanic tracked down the correct model steering wheel in black leather. It matches the interior just fine and looks infinitely better.

11. All four of the factory allow rims exhibit minor curb rash.

12. There is a high quality window tint (California legal) that has been installed on all of the glass at the rear of the vehicle. It remains in excellent condition.

Please feel free to contact with any questions. The car is available for inspection by yourself and your mechanic as you direct. I will do all I can to make it a simple matter to have the car checked out. The vehicle is currently garaged on Los Angeles' Westside.

Please ask questions prior to placing a bid.

Vehicle will be delivered with clear California Title (original Pink Slip - not a copy,) current California registration and a current California State Smog Certification. Both original keys are included as is the full set of original owner's manuals and service history. We will be removing the two license plate frames if that is acceptable to the buyer.

This is a NO RESERVE auction.

A $500 deposit by PayPal will be required within 48 hours of winning this auction. We have clear title and a fresh smog certification on hand. I will gladly help coordinate pick-up of the vehicle for out-of-town shipping should that be necessary.

Mercedes to roll out S65 AMG Coupe in July

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

We're still a couple of weeks away from the public debut of the new Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe at the fast-approaching New York Auto Show, but already we're receiving word of an even more powerful version in the works. That, of course, would be the S65 AMG Coupe - the twelve-cylinder version of the latest S-Class Coupe, two-door counterpart to the S65 AMG sedan and replacement for the outgoing CL65 AMG.
Like the four-door version rolled out back in November, the S65 AMG Coupe would be distinguished from less powerful vehicles (which, lets face it, is just about everything) principally by its engine: a massive, 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that produces 621 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and cares as much about global warming as an oil-shipping mega-tanker.
Because Merc's 4Matic all-wheel drive system can't handle that much torque, the ne plus ultra coupe would (like the S65 sedan but unlike the S63 coupe) be offered only in rear-drive form. That means it will have that much more trouble getting the power down to the road, but since the Magic Body Control suspension is similarly incompatible with 4Matic, the flagship coupe will get that trick suspension.

Mercedes-AMG considering turbo fours, hybrid sixes for future performance sedans

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

Think of the letters AMG and you'll probably end up picturing a performance sedan with a big V8. Such has become, after all, the Mercedes turning division's calling card. But with the introduction of its 2.0-liter turbo four, AMG is working at turning that notion on its head.
The highly potent engine produces 355 horsepower and is presently installed in the A45 AMG hatchback, CLA45 AMG sedan and GLA45 AMG crossover, giving Benz's smallest family a full range of performance models. But that might not be the full extent of the high-strung four-pot's use.
Speaking with AMG boss Tobias Moers, Britain's What Car? magazine reports that Affalterbach is considering slotting the same engine into larger models, particularly performance sedans like the C-Class. As we recently reported, Mercedes is already preparing to up the power from the turbo V6 in the C400 to slot a C450 Sport in below the C63 AMG. The C450 is expected to offer around 367 horsepower where the CLA45 AMG et al pack 355, but the lighter weight of the four-cylinder engine would likely offset the truancy of those extra dozen horses. Of course such a prospect would be much further down the pipeline than the C450 Sport which is expected to arrive much sooner.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.
