The most performance and quality you can be driving, at a very low price.  Sorry for the long description, but I'll try to give you as much info as possible about automobile:

I became the second owner of this car about ten years ago (100K miles ago).  I'm selling it because we have more cars than we can drive, and I hate to have this car just sitting around when it was designed to be driven. This model, the very limited production 500E, had an original sticker price in 1993 of $ 86,000.  They all came fully loaded.  The car is mechanically sound.  The engine is very strong (strong and exceptionally high and early torque).  The rust in the wheel wells and on a few additional areas is unfortunate, because the automobile is otherwise in very good shape.  One could have the body work and paint work done to make it perfect, or it could just be driven the way it is, without doing anything to it.   I had the transmission completely rebuilt.(I started to have problems w/reverse). Now the shifting and overall performance is back to outstanding.  This particular model was a high performance project, jointly executed by Mercedes and Porsche.  The car handles much, much better than an 320E, or the later E500's. The performance is far superior.  Everything in this car is dialed-up compared to the standard versions.  Torque is constant and very impressive starting at about 1000 rpm.  The engine runs and sounds like a high performance engine should.

The car came, originally, with a high performance BOSE speaker and amplifier system. The dash unit is no longer there, but the amp and BOSE speakers and sub-woofer are still installed.  (The stereo unit in the dash had the factory theft code system.  When the battery was disconnected during a service checkup, the code would not unlock the stereo.  So I pulled the unit out and bought a replacement cd player, tuner, amp, which I will include but have not yet installed).  If you are particular about having the original stereo in the car, you might be able to find one on EBay.  The wiring has not been altered, and an original style deck should plug right in.

Due to the additional torque, the 500E was equipped with the rear end out of the Mercedes V12 600SEL.  This eliminated the possibilities for a bench seat in the rear, so the rear has two Recaro bucket seats.  The fronts are Recaro electric buckets as well, and are heated.  The Mirrors are electric, but the mirror control button works intermittently, so I have been manually adjusting the mirrors when I need to.   I have not checked into the cost of a new switch, but it can't be a big ticket item.  Replacing it might require a few tricks, as most Mercedes repairs do, as it is not very obvious how the switch comes out.  The interior is free of any tears or holes, and is in very good condition.

The car comes with two sets of wheels.  The wheels that are currently on the car are AMG Mercedes wheels, 17", with tires that will get you anywhere in the country, but are due to be replaced soon.  The original 16" wheels come mounted with snow tires, and the snows are in good condition.  (Yes, this car is GREAT in the snow.  It features a computerized anti-slip system that really works well.  In fact, on icy and snowy mountain passes, this car goes up without a hitch, where many four wheel drive cars have problems.

The headlights are the European version headlights.  (Note: The outer lens on the drivers side has a crack in it, as can be seen in the pictures, but the light is still fully functional.)  The European headlights are much better than those that came on the US version.
Here is what a review had to say about the car:

Between 1992 and 1994, Mercedes-Benz sold a sport version of the W124, the Mercedes-Benz 500 E, created in close cooperation with Porsche. Each 500 E was hand-built by Porsche, being transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche's Rossle-Bau plant in Zuffenhausen during assembly---taking a full 18 days to complete each model. Design began in 1989 and into 1991. Between 1992 and 1995, Mercedes/Porsche built a total of 10,479 500 E's[1]. Of these, 1505 of the "super" sports sedans were imported into the USA between 1992-1994, or roughly 500 cars per year of importation. Called '500 E' through model year 1993, for model year 1994 it was face-lifted along with the rest of the range and renamed to 'E 500'. This is truly a "Drivers" car, yet it comfortably seats four.

Mercedes-Benz 500 E

The 500 E had a dual camshaft 32-valve 4973 cm3 V8 engine naturally aspirating 326 hp (240 kW) and 480 N·m (354 ft·lbf), with the engine being derived from the 500 SL (R129) roadster. Sports car braking performance also came from SL components: front SL 500 300 mm disks with 4-piston calipers came installed on the 1992 and early 1993 cars. The later 1993, and all 1994 cars came with the upgraded 320 mm set taken from the 600 SL. Rear brakes on all years were 277 mm brakes from the 500 SL. In the USA, the 500 E came fully-loaded, with the only options available to the buyer being a dealer-installed CD changer and an integrated telephone. The 500 E was only available as a four-seater, with the four leather seats supplied by Recaro (the fronts heated).

Called the "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" by the press, performance tests of the day yielded impressive results: 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) times of 5.5 seconds and acceleration through the quarter-mile (0.4 km) in 14.1 seconds at 163 km/h (101 mph). The top speed was redline limited at 6,000 rpm to 250 km/h (~155 mph). With its aggressive stance: 1.5 inches wider track, 0.9 inch lower profile, flared fenders, side skirts, front air-dam and wide tires, the 500 E is easily distinguished from its lesser brethren. Because of its look, limited numbers, hand-built construction, and unique pedigree, the 500 E is already considered a "classic", even within Mercedes-Benz.

and tuned for performance by the worlds best race and sports car builder, Porsche.

And now, thanks to EBay, you can own it for a very low price compared to the original $86,000 price tag of 1993.

Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class to get diesel, hybrid versions

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

Mercedes-Benz is planning a more aggressive product strategy for its next-generation C-Class range. "We were fighting the 3 Series with two arms tied behind our back, and now we will change that," Steve Cannon, the automaker's US CEO, told Automotive News in a recent interview.
In addition to offering more body styles of the new C-Class, AN reports that the revamped Mercedes will also be offered here with hybrid and diesel powertrains. Currently, the C-Class comes in coupe and sedan variants, with only gasoline engines. The BMW 3 Series, however, is available as a sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon, and offers buyers the choice of gasoline, diesel (the upcoming 328d) or hybrid power.
Mercedes-Benz will show the next-generation C-Class at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with sales of the US-built sedan following in August. Coupe, convertible and hybrid models will follow in early 2015, and while diesel and all-wheel-drive versions are planned, no specific timetable has been released regarding availability.

First official shot of Mercedes S-Class Coupe leaks out

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

With the official debut for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe expected tomorrow, it shouldn't be a surprise that some clicky fingers have already managed to uncover an official image of the car before the unveiling. Outside of this sole image, though, there's precious little detail on the new car.
First posted by Autofilou and then picked up by WorldCarFans, the production S-Class Coupe isn't far off from the concept car we saw a few months back in Frankfurt. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan. The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Obviously, the beltline and slim, B-pillarless greenhouse are coupe-only items. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.
We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this lone image? Does it appear that Mercedes has got it right? In terms of design, where would you rank this with the departing CL-Class? Have your say in Comments.

XCAR marks 20-year anniversary of Senna's passing with Mercedes 190E Cosworth

Thu, 01 May 2014

While the automotive world is focusing on the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death, there was much, much more to the legendary driver than his untimely passing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
XCAR has the story of a younger Senna, who, by a stroke of luck, found himself matched up against a veritable dream team of nine Formula One champions, not to mention a cadre of German touring car aces. A "probably still pissed (drunk)" James Hunt, hard-driving Niki Lauda and future champion and rival Alain Prost, were in attendance for the one-off, spec race, which was put on by Mercedes-Benz, in honor of the opening of the Nürburgring's Grand Prix circuit. And Senna was on hand with the explicit goal of besting them all.
Each driver was handed a lightly modified, but brand-new 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, a car that can best be though of as the distant ancestor of the lovable C63 AMG. As for the race itself, well, it was sort of like an introduction of what the sport could come to expect from the Brazilian.
