1988 300TE with 1988 300E parts car, TE runs well but needs some attention. The odometer quit at 103k, pretty common with these W124 cars, it has probably 120k on it, click on the 'history' tab for background info. The parts car is a 1988 300E with 118k on it, a buddy got it at an insurance sale as a non-rebuildable 'certificate of destruction' to be a parts car. About the only parts removed were the alternator, some window switches, a few relays and the shifter, there are many parts remaining including a very nice interior.

Here's the story with the wagon: The car was a daily driver with everything working until it was replaced by E320 wagon in late 2006. I was going to use it as a third car but let the insurance and registration lapse, the next time I tried to move it the battery had died and there it sat since then. I've just replaced both fuel pumps and fuel pump relay with new parts, added a new battery and fresh gas and it runs well. Unfortunately, all the sitting has left the brakes with a low pedal, probably the master cylinder needs to be replaced with the good one on the parts car. Only the front passenger window works but they will likely 'limber up' with some attention. The car has nice seats and a decent interior overall with the exception of the third row where it looks like it leaked at some point so the seat and carpet where the seat folds down is mildewed. The dash/console wood is cracked but the parts car has these in good shape. The dash has one crack but the parts car also has this part in good shape. The car needs to be painted as it's dull from the sun and some clearcoat is turning loose in a few spots. There is one spot of rust under the left back window, see pics. The tires were new in '06 so they have plenty of tread left though I'd take a close look at them before serious use due to their age. The CD player was also new in '06 and still works well with much better radio reception than the stock radios these cars came with. The car has 'Euro' headlights to do away with the US headlight assys. that tended to fall apart from age and UV as well as provide significantly more light.

This wagon can definitely be brought back, probably just with bits from the parts car, and the price is low enough to use them both for parts if you have the need. There are $360 worth of new fuel pumps & relay on it alone plus $100 of new battery, those new parts and the scrap value of these heavy two MBs are more than where the auction starts! I'm relocating in a few months so all projects, relics and heirlooms must go!

Mercedes-AMG teases GT interior, announces fall 2014 debut

Mercedes-Benz opted to tease the assembled media at its post-New York Auto Show party, showing off a pair of images of the exquisitely crafted interior of the highly anticipated successor of the SLS AMG - the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GT.
Slated for a debut in the fall at either Paris or Los Angeles (we're betting Paris), you'll note straight away that there's something wrong with this car's name. Where's the "Benz?" Well, it's been ditched to, as Mercedes says, "make the dream of the authentic Mercedes-AMG sports car come true." Sorry Karl.
"The new Mercedes-AMG GT proves that we will be positioning AMG as a dynamic sports car brand even more strongly and aggressively than before," said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG.

In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept crossover leaked ahead of Shanghai debut

With just a few days left before the start of the Shanghai Motor Show, images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept compact crossover have emerged online. The little 'ute is based on the small A-Class hatchback, and though it shares an identical wheelbase, is larger in every other dimension.
Looking like a rough-and-tumble five-door hatchback on the tippy toes of its 20-inch wheels, the GLA is most certainly destined for production in a toned down form that will borrow many bits and pieces from other cars based on this platform like the aforementioned A-Class and the CLA-Class sedan. Carscoop reports that the production version of the GLA will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of this year, with sales to the public starting in 2014.
Since it's based on the A-Class, we expect that the production GLA-Class will be powered by your choice of Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a diesel or two, and will offer transmissions that include the company's seven-speed DCT and perhaps a six-speed manual (at least in Europe). If the GLA follows the same path as the two cars before it, expect a GLA45 AMG producing over 300 horsepower, as well. As for what powers the GLA Concept, that just might remain a mystery until the vehicle is officially revealed in China.
