West Palm Beach, Florida, United States

This is a 2 owner, (non-smoker) Florida car with only a little over 38,000 on the odometer that has been owned & maintained by a GM classic car restorer who pays great attention to detail.  The car has been garage kept & covered (cover is included with car) and the paint is a solid 8.5 out of 10.  It does have small nicks here and there from just your normal driving. The car has never been driven in the rain, since owned by myself in 1994 and has only been driven enough to maintain it mechanically, the occasional “Sunday Drive” and to the local car shows.  All the fluids, including the brake fluid have been replaced on a regular schedule and the car is stored and driven using only Ethanol Free fuel.  There are NO fluid leaks of any kind, anywhere.  This car has won "Best in Class" in every show it has been entered in, including All Super Chevy Shows here in Palm Beach.  The engine is solid, with lots of power (Close to 400 HP) and has been updated with the following: (All receipts are included with car if desired)

Cold Air Induction with K & N Air Filter

TPIS 52mm Throttle Body

TPIS Mini Ram Intake Manifold

TPIS ZZ9 Full Roller Cam and 1.5/1.6 Full Roller Rockers

New Bosch Flow Matched Fuel Injectors

New O2 Sensor

New Fuel Pump

New Fuel Filter

New Die Hard Battery

TPIS Headers

TPIS 3” Cat Back Exhaust

Random Technology High Flow Catalytic Converter

3” Flowmaster Mufflers

MSD 6AL Ignition

New Taylor Spark Plug Wires

DUI High Performance Distributor

Custom Burned TPIS EPROM (that is dialed in to absolute perfection)

Smog Pump Eliminator

Everything works with no exceptions and the AC has been updated to R134A.  The suspension is all original right down to the Bilstein shocks!  It also has a brand new set (less than 50 miles on them) of BF Goodrich High Performance G-Force KDW tires on it that stick like glue to the road! The black interior is perfect and original with no cut up dash, worn out seats or modifications other than a shift light mounted on the “A” pillar. The car has all the paperwork, original sales literature, window sticker, build sheet, original owner’s manual, spare FACTORY plastic emergency key, tire pressure gauge, roof panel removal tool (the optional blue roof as noted in the build sheet & on the window sticker is not available), etc. that is included with the car.  I am also including with the sale all the original Service Manuals, the original distributor, smog pump along with any parts that I removed from the car and a complete TPIS modified Tuned Port intake manifold that was on the car prior to the current Mini Ram setup.  All the glass has been tinted but there is a scratch on the outside of the driver’s side window from a bad felt.

If you have any questions, need additional information or photos of this beautiful car please email me and I will reply ASAP.

Thanks for looking and with a “blemish free” Car Fax and Experian Auto Check report you can buy it with confidence!

A $1000.00 deposit is due via Pay-Pal within 24 hours of end of auction. The balance is due within 7 business days of the close of auction.  All “balance due” payments must be paid by cash, bank wire or cashier's check before car is released. If no contact is made within 24 hours I reserve the right to re-list the vehicle or sell it to the next highest bidder.  Car is for sale locally and can be withdrawn at anytime.

  Good luck!!

Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.

Mercedes takes VW Westfalia Camper idea upscale with new Marco Polo

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the new V-Class. Slotting in below the popular Sprinter, the new V-Class replaced both the Viano and Vito upon its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But Mercedes isn't quite done with it just yet. At the upcoming Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, Mercedes will reveal the Marco Polo - a versatile, stylish and decidedly contemporary take on the classic camper van.
Named after the famous Italian explorer, the Marco Polo was converted by Westfalia, an outfit which you might more closely associate with classic VW camper vans but which Daimler absorbed over a decade ago. Offering, according to the press release below, "a maximum of opportunities to be independent, free and spontaneous," the Marco Polo sleeps four thanks to the rear bench that electrically folds flat into a bed and the second berth under the pop-top. The flexible interior is decked out like you'd expect a modern Mercedes to be, with ambient LED lighting as well as wood, metal and piano black trim.
It's got an onboard kitchenette with two gas burners, a sink and fridge with a 10 gallons of fresh water and an even bigger waste tank. All that gear is shlepped around by a choice of four-cylinder turbodiesel engines ranging in output from 136 to 190 horsepower. The relatively compact form boasts a turning circle similar to a full-size sedan and a height designed to fit into most garages and car washes. All of which just might make us reconsider the appeal of traveling by camper van.

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."
