Family Owned Mercedes 1990 420 Sel, Black With Palomino Leather on 2040-cars
Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States
Beautiful example of a well cared for 1990 420 SEL. This car was purchased by my grandfather, shipped from Germany, and besides selling it to a friend for a couple of years (I purchased it back) it has been in my family the entire time. Car has been meticulously maintained, and I have all service records. I know these cars very well as it has been my daily driver for a long time, and I can say with certainty that this is one of the best looking 420s I have seen, and it is definitely in better mechanical condition. These cars need to be driven, and I have been doing exactly that in addition to servicing it with the best Mercedes mechanic in North Carolina. You are going to be ensured that it is in great mechanical shape. Since 2009 I have spent $8400 on the car (have spreadsheet). The front end has been redone, the brakes are good to go, and it has new shocks. There are no more than 267670 miles on the chassis, and a new engine with 125000 miles (I bought a salvage car) was put in as well as a new transmission at 224,226. The odometer stopped working in January (have receipts to show this, there are 263670 miles on the odometer) but the oil has been changed every 3 months since. I have not driven the car more than 3000 miles since January. There is a lot of life left in this machine, and it will give someone years of pleasure and safe travel. Michelins on the car are good. Leather interior, working sunroof, all windows working well. For a car this age the seats and interior are in fantastic condition, as you can see. There are absolutely no tears on the roof of the interior. There are some slight cracks in the plastic speaker covers in the rear from sun exposure (the cover of the 3rd brake light has been replaced). The bottom line is that this car looks great and is mechanically sound. Please contact me with any questions as I would love to chat with you about Black Betty--917-568-4009 Bid with confidence. |

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels
Thu, 24 Jan 2013The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
Mercedes releases 6x6 G63 AMG specs and pics [w/video]
Fri, 15 Mar 2013Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6x6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6x6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires. All told, there are five differential locks on this thing, all controlled by a special "locking logic" that provides the best traction possible for any given situation.
The controls offer up three stages of locking, which we can only assume range from JKLOL to OMGWTF. Right now, AMG says this monstrosity is only a show vehicle, but we imagine it wouldn't take much to convince the team to whip up one of your very own. Check out our full gallery and the press release below for all the nitty gritty. While you're down there, you can also check out the video on the machine one more time.
Mercedes was set to sell version of Nissan Titan, now Infiniti might instead
Wed, 18 Sep 2013Mercedes-Benz Titan. Mercedes-Benz Frontier. Mercedes-Benz pickup truck. None of these things roll off the tongue particularly well. We'd like to think that's the reason Daimler opted to kill the idea of rebadged Titan and Frontier pickups from corporate ally Nissan. In reality, the execution before the Frankfurt Motor Show was due to more complicated issues.
Yes, Mercedes, byword for German luxury, style and quality, would have slapped a three-pointed star on a pair of Japanese pickup trucks that have failed to resonate with consumers in the world's largest truck market. That slapping of badges isn't much of an exaggeration, at least on the outside. According to the report from Road & Track, the truck's front clip would have been tweaked, but beyond that, the sheetmetal would have been unchanged. The interior would have received a more thorough going-over by the team at Mercedes, while the suspension and noise, vibration and harshness tuning would have also received significant attention.
The trucks would have ended up being sold through the light-commercial branch of Mercedes-Benz - the same folks that will happily sell you a Sprinter van - had the deal gone through. Issues arose, though, first with the engines. Mercedes wanted a wider range of powertrains to allow it to tune models for specific markets, while Nissan said it couldn't engineer the wide variety of engines that MB wanted to drop under the hood. For the smaller truck, meanwhile, MB was interested in a hybrid or plug-in variant, according to R&T, although this was also shot down by Nissan.
