Fremont, California, United States

I am selling my project of 6 years now! Here are the short and sweet details: This is a really nice car; I have received many compliments on it.

1984 Mercedes Benz, 300d, 290k miles, automatic, fog lamps, euro parking light feature, upgraded heated seats, bluetooth cell phone stereo with built in microphone near the driver, power amp, sub-woofer, power door locks, power windows, powered sun roof, power steering, power disc brakes, full size spare, outside temperature display, original Mercedes tool kit, and many other features.

1. Partially restored (valves adjusted, new water pump, new radiator, new brakes, refinished wood, refinished interior, new carpet, new head liner, new axles, shocks, battery, rear window - so rear defrost works great, new AC system compressor, expansion valve, dryer, hoses.  kept AC system with the original R12 refrigerant.

Newly added item #1: premium pioneer stereo, matched fusion speakers 2-way front and rear; with sub-woofer tube in the trunk! this sounds really clear! has power too but not too much (sweet for jazz, classical, talk radio, however my son loves to jam to rock and disco!). Also this unit is blue tooth capable, so totally hands free phone calls, there is a mic on the pillar and the voice is heard over the car stereo system.

Newly added item #2: Heated front seats (these cars came with the capability but only for Europe). So I added the heaters and custom mounted the switches in the dash! Wired to the factory fuse box. Has both high and low settings, very nice feature

Newly added item #3: Outside temp display; this is mounted in the dash and looks like factory! the items came from a newer 1994 190, and fits perfect. See the outside temp like a newer car.

Newly added item #4: Visor mirrors with lights

Also included with the sale, are a set of new Euro head lights and corners lights! these really make the car look modern. They are not installed yet; but brand in the boxes (in the trunk and ready for the new owner)

Note: Due to economy and cuts backs, I am selling my toys and projects to make ends meet and moving on! This is a great car for someone to pick up where I left off, or just simply enjoy it as is! or convert to bio, etc....Note: this car has only had regular diesel so far (no bio). This is an excellent collector's car; and in my opinion, it is one of the nicest condition 300D's with all of these features for the price. It is a daily driver and cruiser, it likes to be used.

The vehicle is being sold "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" and without warranty OR guarantees, expressed or implied.

Please: Serious buyers only, prefer to sell to someone who is well versed in these cars.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

Mercedes CLA45 AMG Racing is ready for a spot on the grid

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz trotted out its CLA45 AMG-based racer at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We first showed you the sedan in the deluge of news and reveals that precedes most good auto shows, and were blown away by the car, formally known as the CLA45 AMG Racing Series.
We were strolling by the Mercedes stand, and figured we'd pop in and take a look at the new racer and its carbon-fiber body panels, gutted interior, and race-sourced aero parts. It's a looker, both as a road car and a track weapon. It's not clear what series the CLA45 AMG will qualify for, although it does seem like a shoe-in for the World Touring Car Championship. Let us know what you think of the CLA racer down in the comments. In the meantime, we've got a full gallery of live images up top, along with the stock images that were posted last week on the Mercedes-Benz Facebook page.

Mercedes releases 6x6 G63 AMG specs and pics [w/video]

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6x6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6x6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires. All told, there are five differential locks on this thing, all controlled by a special "locking logic" that provides the best traction possible for any given situation.
The controls offer up three stages of locking, which we can only assume range from JKLOL to OMGWTF. Right now, AMG says this monstrosity is only a show vehicle, but we imagine it wouldn't take much to convince the team to whip up one of your very own. Check out our full gallery and the press release below for all the nitty gritty. While you're down there, you can also check out the video on the machine one more time.
