This car history for me has been fun and interesting from the start-I originally bought it out of Northern Newyork State from the original owner. I was looking high and low for the forest green with manual transmission. It wasn't a rust bucket and seemed sound and what I would rate as a strong backbone of a car. I decided too drive it for while and see how I was going too like the car and decided to go ahead and do a restore of high end sorts. I own a collision repair center and shop was slow so moved forward bringing this back too condition of outstanding. I went thru and fixed everything that needed repairs-A/C-Cruise-Window ect-If it needed attention I repaired or replaced. The shop was slow at the time and did a 3 week repair and refinish-Mostly dents and faded-this isn't your spray and looks great at 55MPH its a wonderful repair and spared no expense I put new MB fenders on the car cause had a small hole-I probally went over board and if billed out for customer would have been around 5,000.00 to 7000.00 restoration job. I also spent alot getting all the systems working properly and after it was all done it was too nice for me too drive as a everyday car and turn it into a WVO car which this car wasn't a option in my mind so I sold it and payed the shop for work done. I sold it locally and the new owner loved the car and drove it for couple years and I did all the care for it for the next couple of years too include vavle adjustments and oil changes. He was moving needed a truck and while he told me "This is the best Car I ever Owned" his needs have changed. I bought it back and went thru the car just too check it over and its still in great shape and would drive this car anywhere and did a little work but really not much. I did give it a oil change and he recently put new tires on the car-Its really fine car and in wonderful condition for the vintage. I would rate the car a 8 out of ten in all its glory and will let the pictures show this is the case. It has few flaws but nothing major on anything that needs too be done as far as I am concerned. The car is being sold in "As is Condition" the payment expected is cash in person, Money Order-after it clears the banking system. I been down bad money order before on internet sale so can't release the car till payment is secured. The rims where also custom work done at the shop and done with Real Gold leaf-I believe nice added touch.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

Zetsche's CEO tenure extended through 2016 at Daimler

Sun, 24 Feb 2013

There appear to be two takes on Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche having his contract extended for three more years, to 2016. A report in The Detroit News quotes the chairman of Daimler's supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff, talking up the stability at the top, "With today's extensions of the contracts of Dieter Zetsche and Thomas Weber, we are maintaining the important continuity at the top executive level." Bischoff also stated that that Zetsche has a plan to "further enhance Daimler's overall performance."
Over at Reuters, though, the three-year extension was seen as a lack of complete confidence in Zetsche's plans, since his contract was supposedly meant to be extended by five years. A spokesman said the board decided to extend executive contracts by only three years if the person was 60 or would turn 60 during the contract, but that was news to observers. Zetsche wants to make Mercedes-Benz the top selling luxury manufacturer globally by 2020, but has fallen to third place behind Audi and BMW. It hasn't held the top spot 2005, and investors judged it valued at half that of BMW at the end of 2012 once Daimler's truck business was subtracted.
Analysts cites the fact that Daimler stock hasn't bested its rivals but twice in twelve years, and that the company revised its profit target downward last year by nearly one billion euros, warning of stagnant earnings this year and will miss its original margin target for 2013.

The Mansory Speranza proves that money can buy taste and good sense...

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

...Just kidding.
No one in their right mind has ever accused German tuners Mansory of being subtle. So, when our Geneva team wandered across the Mansory Speranza - A Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen that has been denuded of its roof and spackled inside with quilted leather and red carbon fiber - they didn't ask a lot of existential questions. Why does the Speranza exist? Because Germans are weird sometimes, that's why.
Forget for a moment that you'll have to pay Mansory hundreds of thousands of euros (we're guessing, no pricing information has been revealed) for the privilege of converting your G-Class into something that looks like a Suzuki Samurai, and prepare to be impressed by the details. The tuning house has increased the output of the Mercedes V8 to a healthy 700 horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. The wheels are 24-inches, and wear almost unbelievable 305-section ultra-high performance Vresdestein tires. Carbon fiber can be found nearly everywhere one looks, including making up the housing for the spare tire. Oh, and there are leather pillows for the backseats... no word on whether they're standard or optional, but we're looking in to it.
