Year:1983 Mileage:270700
Location:

Edmond, Oklahoma, United States

Edmond, Oklahoma, United States

Offered for sale by the original owner.  I took delivery of the vehicle from Bolen Imports, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in July of 1983 with 27 miles on the odometer.  Although the odometer shows 259,500 miles, the speedometer was replaced under warranty at 11,164 miles so I have listed the correct actual mileage.  1983 was the last year of production of this very popular model for the U.S. Market and was the culmination of the very successful seven year run of the 240D-123 Series introduced by Mercedes in 1977.  All of the original purchase and delivery information, owner's manual and booklets, and original window sticker are with the vehicle.  It has been garaged all of its life and there has been no smoking in the vehicle.  As the mileage indicates it has been an actively driven vehicle as a daily driver.  It was my wife's primary vehicle from 1983 to 1994 after which I became its principal driver.  As we have aged, she prefers to no longer drive a manual shift and since we keep two vehicles with the need to be able to drive them interchangeably the 240D needs a new home.

Features on the vehicle which may not be on other 240D's of that era include: Central Locking System - Tinted Glass - Electrically Operated Right Outside Mirror - Becker Europa Stereo Radio/Cassette - Power Sliding Sun Roof - Power Windows - Alloy Wheels

Included with the vehicle are the following Accessories (See photos):  Le Bra front end protector - Color matching sheepskin front seat covers for both front seats (photo shows only driver's side) - All Weather front floor mats

Included with the vehicle are the following publications.  (Worth around $200 by themselves)

Mercedes Benz Maintenance Manual USA Passenger Cars Starting Model Year 1981

Mercedes Benz Service Manual Chassis and Body Series 123, Volume 1

Mercedes Benz Service Manual Chassis and Body Series 123, Volume 2

W123 Mercedes Service Manual on 2 Disc CD Set

Haynes Mercedes-Benz Diesel 123 Series Owners Workshop Manual

1983 Mercedes Benz 123 Series Product Book (Showroom Literature)

April 1977 Motor Trend Magazine (280E, sharing the 123 Series chassis, was Import Car of the Year)

Key maintenance and repair items of interest over the past few years by mileage and time since the action are:

Rear Brake Pads                         5,400    1 year

New Tires                                    8,200    1.7 years

Front Brake Pads                      15,500    2.7 years

Starter Rebuild                          14,900    2.6 years

Clutch System Replaced           18,800    3.1 years

A/C System Refurbished           21,000    3.5 years

Vacuum Pump Replaced          29,600     4.8 years

Water Pump Replaced             29,600      4.8 years

Radio Refurbished by Becker  42,500      6.5 years

Alternator Rebuild                     43,600     6.7 years

Serious bidders can contact me for other maintenance history for items of particular interest.  It has been maintained both aesthetically and mechanically, including such items as fluid and filter changes, valve adjustments, brake fluid flushes, etc.  Just in case you might want to know the date and mileage of the 71 times the oil & oil filter have been changed, I can tell you.  Oil & filter changes are a key element in maintaining the engines in this model and as the math indicates this typically has been done more frequently than the spec interval of 5,000 miles, and always with quality oil and filters.  I also have a record of the other routine maintenance items and repair actions.  Through the years I have repaired or replaced such items as the shift knob, shift boot, door checks, dome lights, instrument cluster dimmer, glove box door liner, window switches, flasher, and clock as needed.  There are no cuts, tears, or stitching issues in any of the seats or door panels.  The plastic frame around the lighted mirror on the passenger visor requires careful opening due to some some repaired cracks.  The power antenna just recently has become intermittent and will occasionally remain either down or up with no predictability.  I do not recall when the cruise control became inoperative as I rarely ever used that feature.

The vehicle has never been wrecked or had any body damage from an accident.  A low impact bump from behind in a line of cars at a stoplight in January of 1984 caused slight damage to a couple of front plastic parts only, the grill insert and one headlight cover, which were replaced.  Bouncing gravel from a construction truck in 2003 resulted in a new windshield (replaced with a genuine Mercedes Benz part), new headlight covers, and a repaint of hood and front facing surfaces.  In addition, over the years I have had professional body shop repair of any rust spots that have occurred, including lower fender rust repair in 2011.

Buyer will be welcome to any small inventory that I may have left of filters, fuel treatments, fuses, gaskets, dash light bulbs, or other miscellaneous parts for this vehicle.

Test drive the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive with Chris Harris

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

It's hard to not like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. The all-aluminum coupe is fitted with a wonderful naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only does the burly combustion engine launch the two-seater to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, but it does so with one of the world's greatest exhaust soundtracks as it roars, burbles and cackles down the road.
But what happens when Mercedes-Benz takes away the V8 and its accompanying fire-burning song? Stripped of one of its most appealing assets, does the SLS lose its soul?
Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a track spin in Europe. Sans gasoline, but with four electric motors providing a combined 740 horsepower (737 pound-feet of torque), all-electric all-wheel drive coupe uses sophisticated torque vectoring and a multi-mode operating system to put oversteer - drifting! - back into the equation. Fun? You bet. See for yourself, below.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG shows up to fight the hottest hatches [w/videos]

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Fun coincidence. On the same day that Audi announces the unveiling of its new S3 Sportback at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz steals the spotlight by confirming that the all-new A45 AMG will also receive its official debut early next month. Starting life as the entry-level A-Class hatchback, the A45 AMG gets the full AMG treatment, which includes numerous performance, handling and styling upgrades.
Under the hood sits an AMG-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 breathing through a sport exhaust system helping the five-door produce 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed AMG dual-clutch transmission and power is sent to the ground using 4Matic all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz says that the A45 AMG will be able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds and it will have a top speed of 155 mph; in the land of hot hatches, it doesn't get much hotter than that. For added performance and handling, AMG has retuned the A-Class' suspension and steering systems and equipped The A45 with a three-stage stability control system that is specific to this car.
Surprisingly, the exterior styling of the A-Class was already sporty enough that the new model doesn't receive too many changes to become the A45 AMG. The biggest alterations include black accents to the chin spoiler, rocker panels and mirror caps, black wheels with red-painted brake calipers and rectangular dual exhaust outlets. Inside, it doesn't take a trained eye to spot the differences. The flat-bottomed sport steering wheel and the numerous red accents throughout the cabin (including the seatbelts!) really help to make this AMG interior stand out; front passengers will also get sport bucket seats that appear to be more than supportive enough for even the most spirited driving conditions.

Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class spotted in the snow

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

The entry-level Mercedes-Benz C-Class has long felt like nothing more than, well, just that. Aside from the potent and delicious C63 AMG models, there hasn't been much to set the C-Class apart in the entry-level luxury/sport segment, leading to the model being regarded by many as "The Cheap Mercedes." No, it's certainly not a bad car, but for our money, it hasn't stood up particularly well to competitors like the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4.
So with the handsome new CLA-Class coming to round off the entry-level end for Mercedes-Benz, big plans are in store for the C-Class. We can see some evidence of that in this latest set of spy shots from our friends at CarPix. According to earlier reports, the new C-Class will be "far more dramatic" in the visuals department, and while the sedan's sculpting is still covered by camo, the much sleeker headlamp design we see here is, at the very least, a good start. The car's overall size is expected to grow a bit to further distance itself from the CLA, though thanks to lightweight materials, curb weight isn't expected to increase.
Just like the current model, the new C-Class is expected to use four- and six-cylinder engines, both gas- and diesel-fed, and overall power output for the global engine range should span from 120-ish on the low end to as much as 330. These new engines are expected to be mounted lower and farther rearward than before, offering better balance for both rear- and 4Matic all-wheel drive configurations. And as for that AMG? Rumors suggest a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will fall underhood.
