I'm the second owner of this wonderful, low mileage, W123 Mercedes 5 cylinder turbodiesel coupe in champagne with palomino tex interior located in Pittsburgh, PA.  I had known about the car for more than a couple of decades pror to purchasing it. At the time of my purchase, the odometer read in the area of 43,300 miles. In my opinion, the car is in excellent original condition with 47,186 miles. No accidents. No paint work. Period! This was my 6th W123 car and my third 300CD; this particular car wears the highest mileage of all the 123's I've owned. Actually, I had the exact car in the form of a 1982 body that had 10,000 original miles on the odometer. The car that I'm selling here runs and operates just as nicely as the '82 car!

The car was purchased new at Ascot Imported Cars, Inc., Sewickley, PA, on September 10, 1983, and serviced at Ascot until Ascot's relationship with Mercedes ended sometime in the very early 2,000's. Subsequent to Ascot's closing, the vehicle was serviced and annually inspected at Bobby Rahal Motorcars, Wexford, PA; a factory authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer.  The state of Pennsylvania mandates annual inspection for every registered vehicle therefore, this vehicle's mileage has been documented and filed with the state of Pennsylania every year for the past 31 years. It has never been registered outside of Pennsylvania.

I have in my possession all factory manuals, the original window sticker, certicard and maintenance records dating back to the year 2001; older maintenance records may possibly be procured through Mercedes-Benz of North America. During the past 10,000 miles of use, the motor oil's been changed about 13 times. The motor performs and the transmission shifts just as one would expect for a 47,000 mile W123 car.  The interior is virtually as new with the exception of a very small anomaly the size of a dime on the lower left panel of the driver's seat-back perhaps due to the original owners wallet grazing across the seat panel upon entering and exiting the vehicle ( I'll post a picture). The interior's wood trim is intact and looks new; not even a scratch. The door panels look new and show hardly any evidence whatsoever of shrinkage or ruffling. Examination of the steering wheel and foot pedals reflect the wear of a W123 with 47,000 original miles which is virtually nil! The engine compartment, as you can see, looks especially fine, indeed! All glass is excellent including the windshield. There are no cracks in the dashboard.

This car's body is in exceptional condition and the paint finish is glossy and shines beautifully. There's no rust issues associated with the body or chrome nor anywhere else to the best of my knowledge. And, the bright work is simply gorgeous on this car! There is, however, an issue with the hood panel that entails a dent caused by an errant Titleist while the original owner was visiting a golf course one particular day. The dent is situated just beneath the driver's side cowl panel (see photo).  I've sought the services of a paintless dent removal expert who, upon trial, met with some success in minimizing the size of the dent but could not remove it completely. So, aside from that issue, there's a few very minor paint chips around the bottom area of the headlamp bezels (see photos) which are at most minute and not at all serious or even hardly noticeable. And, there's one paintchip on the left side of the hood edge above the headlamp bezel (see photo). Of course, the car's always been garage stored.

Currently, this coupe's equipped with four new Michelin Defender radial tires that have less than 1000 miles of wear. The A/C blows cold and has been updated. A new compressor was installed August 2002 with 37,317 miles on the odometer. The spare tire compartment is pristine and equipped with the original jack along with the Mercedes tool kit. The spare tire has been down but it's equipped with the original Mercedes wheel. Incidentally, the vehicle wears the original wheels which are in excellent condition with a rich and shiny clearcoat still evident; there's no paint chipping, chaffing, or unusual wear of the finish on the wheels.  Everything with the exception of the clock is in perfect working order. The clock operated perfectly until last year when it suddenly and without notice ceased operating.

This vehicle is offered as is whereis. No warranty expressed or implied. Potential buyers are encouraged to bring their mechanic!

A nonrefundable deposit in the amount of $1,000.00 USD is expected within 24 hours of auction end via PayPal. The remainder of the balance is due when you arrive to take delivery of the vehicle and in the form of liquid funds, no exceptions! Please ensure your funds are liquid and in order before placing a bid. The vehicle will not be released from my care, custody and control until I'm assured funds are secured in my personal account.

I will assist as best I can should the vehicle need shipped; however, this function will remain the full responsibility of the buyer.

I believe I've covered most everything to the best of my knowledge. However, I reserve the right to add or delete information to this listing as I see fit anytime and in accordance with eBay policy. Thank you.

Mercedes says it's tops in luxury sales for 2012, not BMW

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

It turns out that Mercedes-Benz North America has legitimate claim to being the top selling luxury nameplate in the US in 2012.
While sources such as Autodata had put BMW in the top spot, registration data from R.L. Polk shows that Mercedes customers registering new vehicles topped the Bavarian automaker in the most recent calendar year. Polk says Benz posted 274,123 registrations, compared with BMW's 268,498.
In terms of sales posted, BMW had bested Benz 281,460 to 274,134. But sales are recorded somewhat inconsistently from automaker to automaker. Some book the sales as soon as they are shipped from factory to dealer. There is perennial gamesmanship between the two German rivals, and the sales numbers suggest that BMW pushed out some extra sheetmetal to dealers in the last four weeks of the year.

SRT Viper dukes it out with Mercedes SLS Black Series in new Head 2 Head

Fri, 05 Jul 2013

In Episode 36 of Motor Trend's Head 2 Head, now that the Corvette ZR1 is no more, Jonny Lieberman has to look overseas to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series for a challenger with similar philosophy to the SRT Viper: long hood hiding a high-horsepower engine set way back, rear-wheel drive, tiny trunks. That puts the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 with 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque against the SLS AMG's 6.2-liter V8 with 622 hp and 468 lb-ft.
However, the congruences in philosophy and magnitude of numbers doesn't translate to the driving experiences of the two, which are literally and figuratively on different continents. Lieberman gets a handle on the two of them on Northern California roads, Randy Probst then finds out how, and how quickly, they can lap Laguna Seca.
They both get kudos for being improvements on their original sources, but only one of them can take the win. You can find out by watching the video below.

Mercedes Makes A Mighty Little Sedan
We got overexcited when the W203 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan came out in 2001, calling it the "Baby Benz" when it really wasn't. We knew that, too, but our enthusiasm for a model more like the old 190 of the '80s was so strong that we were willing to stretch the first-gen C-Class to fit that mold. Today, the C-Class has done what all German premium cars do: grown in size. In this case, grown to satisfy the market intentions of the previous E-Class.
There was the tall A-Class sold from 1998 through 2010, but we never considered that a serious small Benz in the proper spirit, nor was it ever offered in the US. Regardless, we've been craving a smaller, premium, sexy sedan all the while.
