THIS IS A NO RESERVE LISTING.

This is my 1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D Diesel sedan with only 95,150 original miles. Most of these cars have over 200,000 or even 300,000 miles on them by now, and it is extremely rare to find one with under 100,000 miles.

This is without a doubt one of the lowest-mileage, nicest-condition 240D models for sale in the country. I would not hesitate to drive this car cross-country tomorrow.  You could drive this car every day if you wanted.

This is the all-time longest-lasting, most-durable vehicle ever produced in automotive history. A 240D lasted for over 2,800,000 miles as a taxicab in Europe. Every list of the longest-lasting cars always includes Mercedes Diesels at the top.

This was originally a TEXAS car- that is where it was sold new.  I have the original owner's manual and service booklet with the car.

This car is a 2.4L 4-cylinder diesel with 4-speed automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes, MB-Tex leatherette upholstery, power central locking, cruise control and was equipped with factory A/C though it is not working.

I just took this car on a 260-mile trip and got 35.8 miles per gallon. This is totally reliable, dependable, great-driving car. This is the quietest, smoothest-running Mercedes diesel I have ever encountered (and I've had many). Because it has so few miles, the engine has no valvetrain noise or clatter.

This car has the new-type "fast" glowplugs which have recently been replaced- instead of waiting 45 seconds or more, it takes only about 10 seconds for the glowplugs. The car starts perfectly every time.

The interior is original and in very presentable condition. The factory radio has been replaced with a CD player that works great.

The paint is ORIGINAL, and in very reasonable condition for the age. It carries a decent shine and looks good. There have been a few areas of minor rust repair- only a few small spots on the lower part of the body.  The body is straight and clean, and the underside and underhood are clean, solid and great.

This is a great classic dependable car but of course it isn't perfect. The exterior is good but certainly not perfect or show-car new. The driver's seat belt receptacle doesn't latch- you can buckle your seatbelt in the passenger side or just buy a new receptacle. The driver's seat and the back seat to some degree have had the original seat stuffing deteriorate so you can see the outline of the wire frame beneath the upholstery within the seat back. I believe there is a minor vacuum leak, though the vacuum-operated power locks work perfectly.  The cruise control will accelerate the car but doesn't hold it at a constant speed (another reason I suspect a minor vacuum leak). There is some minor whine from the rear diff, but I have changed the fluid to full synthetic and I have no worries about it.  This car was equipped with air conditioning but the compressor and a few of the lines were removed, presumably to increase fuel economy after it stopped blowing cold. The parts are in the trunk, if someone wanted to get the A/C working again.

This is a clean, great-condition classic Mercedes diesel in very reasonable condition for the age- much better than most.  I am confident this car has many decades of life left in it.

This car is kept in my building in Willoughby, OH.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively you can have the car shipped- I highly recommend Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481.

This is a no reserve listing, but I have a number in my head that might buy the car now- call me if you're interested in this possibility.

Mercedes Concept GLA45 AMG is ready to run

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA45 AMG, and what we mean by that is, "This is the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG." Mercedes has just unveiled the liveried 'concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving potential customers a very good look at the newest lunatic in the AMG asylum - a 355-horsepower, 332-pound-foot crossover that uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA45 AMG and Europe's A45 AMG.
Joined with a seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, Mercedes promises a sub-five-second run to 60 miles per hour. That's not just quick for a crossover, that's quick full stop.
That sleek, lifted body has also been tweaked by the minds at AMG's Affalterbach facility. A new rear spoiler, side sills and front clip are the primary aerodynamic tweaks. Aesthetically, AMG has fitted the requisite "Turbo" badges, gloss-black accents (including exhaust tips and roof rails) and a set of 21-inch, AMG-spec alloy wheels to round out the overall package. Based on the spy shots we've seen, expect slightly toned down aerodynamics when the GLA45 AMG arrives in showrooms.

Mercedes goes boating again with G63 AMG-inspired Cigarette

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Cigarette Racing has another Mercedes-Benz AMG-themed boat headed out to sea. After The SLS AMG-inspired 46-foot Rough Rider in 2010 and the C63 AMG Black Series-inspired 50-foot Marauder in 2012, this year's Miami Boat Show will introduce the 42-foot Huntress, theme provided by the G63 AMG.
The latest Cigarette homage is less overly racy than the ones before, befitting a watercraft modeled off a performance SUV, but don't let the looks fool: there are five Mercury Racing Verado 350SCi outboard engines, each one of them packing a supercharged inline six-cylinder with, natch, 350 horsepower. Those 1,750 horses will be good for 78 miles per hour when you've got some saltwater underneath you.
If you're in South Florida this week, Booth B-23 at the Miami Convention Center could be your best place to see it. Otherwise, like the 536-hp G63 AMG, it could be hard to catch. There's a press release with more information below.

Porsche teams with Delta airlines to woo VIP passengers

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

The next time you're waiting for a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, see if you can spot a Porsche Cayenne or Panamera zipping between aircraft on the busy tarmac. The high-performance German vehicles aren't there practicing for an upcoming autocross; they are tasked with whisking some of the airline's most important customers between flights so they can keep their busy schedules intact.
Launched nearly two years ago, the program has proven popular with the automaker, airline and passengers as all benefit from the unique arrangement. Atlanta-based Porsche is able to showcase its cars to Delta's frequent-flying Medallion members, the airline is recognized for providing unusual perks to its high-value customers and those fortunate enough to be surprised with a quick lift are able to make connections without a stressful run through the terminal. Based on its success, the airline is rolling our similar programs in New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis this month.
And don't think Porsche is the only automaker working with an airline to entice its frequent flyers. Mercedes-Benz ran a program over the summer that offered purchasing and leasing incentives to MileagePlus Premier members of United Airlines, and the two are currently shuttling top fliers around Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport in the automaker's S-Class and GL-Class models.
