You are bidding on a 1974 Mercedes Benz 240D with dark blue body and white top. The car is approximately 40 years old and, and in excellent condition, with minor blemishes. This car was originally owned by a Mercedes Benz mechanic and had a complete restoration approximately 10 years ago. The odometer reads 63K miles, but it is most likely 163K miles. The car is in immaculate condition for the age and runs beautifully, with no known mechanical problems. The bullet-proof Mercedes 4-cylinder diesel starts up every time and is regularly maintained. It can be used as a daily driver or kept as a classic. The car is 99% rust-free, both the body and undercarriage are essentially intact. A few small surface rust spots are noted near the spare tire housing and the frame of the passenger side front door. The car has either been garaged or parked in carport most of its life. It gets between 25-35 mpg depending on driving conditions. The car has a battery tender installed to extend the battery life. The interior is in impeccable condition with no rips or scratches on the leather seats and comes with two front sheepskin covers. The car has the original am/fm radio with new speakers. An external glow plug switch with red-light indicator has been professionally installed under the dash. The tires have less than 4K miles on them. A few items to note; the exhaust fastener may need to be tightened; the car does not have AC, compressor was removed; the instrument panel back light needs a new bulb; the windshield washer hoses need replacement; and the front Mercedes emblem has broken off. The car comes with three extra hub caps; a transmission filter/gasket kit; an extra right taillight; the AC compressor mounting bracket; and other small parts. The car has recently, had an oil change and both fuel filters changed. The car has also passed NYS safety inspection. Please email me with any questions you may have. I do not use the car much and feel that it deserves a home where it will be used more often. If you are near Staten Island, New York arrangements to see it can be made. I believe that I am the third owner. Buyer is responsible for arranging pick and/or shipping. A $1000 non-refundable deposit will be required within 24 hours of auction ending. Full payment within 7 day of auction ending. Vehicle must be picked-up within 2 weeks of auction ending or a $25/day storage fee will be charged. No warranty expressed or implied. Car can be driven anywhere, so registering and driving is an option to shipping.

2014 Mercedes S-Class priced lower from $92,900*
Mon, 09 Sep 2013The massively overhauled 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will start at $92,900, not including a $925 destination fee, when it arrives at US dealers in October. That's a 2.8-percent drop over the 2013 S-Class, although Mercedes is fast to point out that a drop in price doesn't equate with a drop in equipment for the executive sedan.
Besides an extra 20 horsepower from the 4.6-liter, biturbocharged V8, the S550 sports a standard panoramic sunroof, keyless start, a rear-view camera and LED headlights, taillights and interior lights. Adding the German manufacturer's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system bumps the S550's price up to $95,900.
If the S550 doesn't quite cut the mustard, you can wait until November, at which point Mercedes will quite happily sell you the new S63 AMG 4Matic for $139,500. Power is also up on the S63, from a max of 563 ponies with an AMG Performance Package to 577 horsepower as standard on the 2014 model.
Mercedes fits new C-Class with AMG kit
Sat, 28 Dec 2013It's only been a week and a half since Mercedes-Benz revealed the new C-Class, and it'll likely be a while yet before the replacement for the C63 AMG comes along. But if you want to see a preview of what it'll look like, look no further than the AMG aero kit that has just surfaced.
Expected to debut on the new C-Class at the fast-approaching Detroit Auto Show, the AMG Line Exterior Pack adds a new bumpers front and rear, side skirts, dual exhaust tips, mesh grille, aluminum window frames and - most importantly - 18-inch alloys packing upgraded brakes and fitted to a lowered sport suspension. All of which will help any C-Class look the part, even if the engine remains stock.
Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts
Wed, 31 Jul 2013Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.
