1972 Mercedes 250c Coupe Project Non Running Rare Small Bumper on 2040-cars

Year:1972 Mileage:87568
Location:

Madrid, Iowa, United States

This is a re-list due to a buyer that never followed through, never contacted me, and never responded to the non paying bidder notification.  Please, listing fees are $50 plus final value fees means this "ad" will cost me $75 just to get this cool car out to a wider audience.

I have done an extensive search of Craigs List for 250C or 280C cars and found that prices are from $2500 and up. Some run, some don't but this car is an excellent restoration project.  I have over $1500 in this car. It has floor pan rust, but floor pans are shared with the thousands of 200 series four door sedans, so cutting out pans and installing them is not easy, but part of almost any restoration process.

The best part is this is a true small bumper pillarless hardtop gem that is very well equipped. REAL leather seats, not MB-TEX vinyl, leather wrapped wheel, rear defrost, Becker radio, power steering, complete motor which had $3000 worth of work prior to previous owner storing car.  Straight.

Rust in pans, rust in very lower rear quarters which may have had plastic filler repair.  This is a car for parts or for a full-on restorations. Front clips are shared with those same four door sedans. Paint it a better color-please!  A dark turquise, green, deep blue.   Bumpers are good, grille is good, lights OK, dash decent but has some cracking. Interior is all original and complete, so you have something to work with.  Door panels complete. A nice start at a cheap price.

I picked this Mercedes small bumper 250C coupe project up off Craigs List 3 months ago and now we are moving so it needs sold or crushed.  It is a Fred Flintstone car, needing floor pans for sure. Trunk seems OK. It is straight with no dents.

This car is special for it's loaded nature. It has power windows, Becker AM/FM. rear window defrost, leather wrapped steering wheel, leather seats and so on.  Nicely equipped. I bought it off craigs list in Minnesota and transported sight unseen. It has a flawed Minnesota title.  The buyer last, never transferred into his name and once it was on the way to me, and he had his money, he couldn't care less so it's a flawed title needing bonding, but I have the last known title to the car.

I have not been able to raise the hood because the latch cable is no good. But I have looked underneath and it is complete.

This is a rare and desirable small bumper 250C, and as a 1972, low emissions impact car. True hardtop. For the Mercedes collector.

I can be reached at 515-520-2611 (Bryan) if questions. Car is getting dumped guys, honestly.  It will be crushed if no one wants it.  ebay charges $55 for an auction now, I am starting at $100 so market will decide but I have well over $1000 in this cool Mercedes project car.

Becker radio, and condition and usage of parts are well worth $1000, BUT would prefer a restoration buyer.  Thanks

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold

Wed, 08 Feb 2012

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.
