1971 280 SE 4DR Mercedes History

My Dad bought the Mercedes in 1971 from Homer F. Herndon, Inc Dealership in Tampa Florida after he retired to Sun City Center, just south of Tampa. The car has remained in the family since. The first ten years my parents used the car for typical east coast trips with an occasional trip to Denver. After my Dad got sick, the car had a more limited use in the Tampa/ Sun City area. My Mom stopped driving in the late 90's and I shipped the Mercedes to Denver in 2002. The odometer reading upon arriving in Denver was 8260. Since that time I have driven about 10,000 miles. The current reading is 18615. The odometer turns over after 99,999 miles. I know the odometer has rolled over 99,999 once but I'm not sure about twice. I take the car to the mountains of Colorado, during summer golf season and store it during the winter in Denver.

When I got the car in 2002 I had the car repainted to its' original colors, blue body with a white top and the transmission replaced. The blue and white was a Florida color scheme. The white top as a heat reflector. I spent $7259 on the paint job and $4550 on transmission and mechanical repairs.

Only a few mechanics have worked on this car. At first the dealer did all of the work, but the mechanic at the dealership retired and my parents used Mr. Ledbetter as their primary mechanic. Since I have owned the car, German Motors in Golden Colorado has been the only mechanic.

The interior is original except for two seat belts, front dash leather and head liner.

I am selling the car because I sold my winter storage space.

I AM LISTING THIS  OLD BUT GOODY FOR A FRIEND.  ALL QUESTION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO JOHN CARROLL AT 303.895.5602.  THANKS FOR LOOKING.

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...

Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...

Fri, 15 Mar 2013

If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.
