1969 Mercedes Benz 230 Sedan on 2040-cars
Costa Mesa, California, United States
I am moving to Maine and cannot take this baby with me. My loss is your gain. I have really enjoyed this car and put quite a bit of money into it over the last several years to make it a comfortable and reliable weekend car. This car has tremendous curb appeal. I always get compliments and admiration for the car. I often get family stories from people who have fond memories this model of Mercedes. Please note that this is not a showroom car. It is not in fully restored or perfect condition. It is a solid Hagerty Condition 3 car. Check out the descriptions here: https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=1378154 . This car has a very good interior. No structural rust damage. Minimal body rust. Working A/C. After market radio with CD and MP3 input. Engine, transmission, suspension are all very good. The engine runs very nicely and there is no shaking or drift at 70 mph. Hagerty values this car at $6,600 in its current condition. If you want to enjoy it as a fun, reliable, weekend or around-town car, your only investment will be regular maintenance and occasional part replacements. Most everything works on this car: all lights, gauges, heat, a/c, radio, blinkers, wipers. The only things I know of that don't work are the clock and the wiper-washer. As previously stated, over $15,000 has been invested in this car since I've owned it. This car has a used engine from a later model 250 of the same body style. What is new includes a custom A/C condenser, complete exhaust system, radiator, carburetor, tires, front windshield, all seals around windows and doors and trunk, plus many other improvements too numerous to list. You are welcome to arrange an inspection of the vehicle before you purchase. However, the car is being sold as-is. To the best of my knowledge the vehicle has never been in an accident. The mileage (based on the condition of the interior and paint) is estimated by my mechanic at 115,000 (there is only a 5-digit odometer). My mechanic recently inspected the car in advance of this sale to determine if there are any major mechanical or structural issues with the car. There are none. There is some minor body rust and small leaks in the transmission and gaskets as can be expected of a 45-year-old car. But they do not affect the normal operation of the car. I am asking $5,500 for the car, which is well below the Hagerty listed value of $6,600. I will answer any questions you may have about the car. If you choose to purchase this car, I know you will enjoy it as much as I have. |

2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec gets 33 mpg, priced from $38,950*
Tue, 30 Apr 2013It's been more than a year since we first saw the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show, but it looks like the compact diesel crossover is finally starting to roll into dealerships. Those wanting to buy a diesel GLK will only have to pony up an extra $1,500 over a base, gas-powered GLK350, as the GLK250's starting price is listed at $38,590 (*not including $905 destination charge).
The turbocharged 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel produces 200 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and Mercedes-Benz has also provided some fuel economy numbers for this model, with claimed EPA estimates of 24 miles per gallon city and 33 mpg highway. There is no listing for the GLK250 on the EPA's website yet, but the figures represent significant increase over the GLK350's lackluster 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway figures, which are for the rear-wheel drive model. The GLK250 comes standard with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system - a $2,000 option on GLK350 - meaning that if you want an all-wheel-drive version of the 2013 GLK, it's actually cheaper to opt for the diesel model. Head over to the Mercedes-Benz site for the full 2013 GLK-Class configurator.
Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG formalize technical partnership
Thu, 19 Dec 2013The development of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin has been a long time coming. The news dates back to 2008, and over the five years since was supposed to lead to a rejuvenation of both the Maybach and Lagonda brands. That program ultimately fell apart, but the tie-in was forged afresh in July when the two automakers signed a letter of intent over a renewed partnership. And now that partnership has been formalized.
In a deal just announced, Mercedes-AMG will build a new V8 engine for Aston Martin that will power a new generation of luxury GTs for the British marque, presumably to replace the 4.7-liter V8 in the Vantage. The relationship appears to be similar to the one already in place between AMG and Pagani, only in this case, will involve Daimler taking as much as a five-percent stake in Aston Martin and an observer seat on Aston's board.
The technical partnership is also set to lead to the supply of electric and electronic systems, and could incorporate "additional areas of cooperation in the future." Whether that will include a fresh attempt at reviving Lagonda remains to be seen, as does the future of Aston's long-serving, Ford-based 6.0-liter V12 engine. But for now you can read the full announcement below.
2014 Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid for fat cats frugal with fuel
Thu, 12 Sep 2013Judging by how long we waited to get a clear shot of the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, you'd have thought hybrid cars were only driven by Terminators and that the technology arrived only 48 hours ago through a wormhole in the Mercedes stand. The newest member of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid band - joining the S400 Hybrid and S350 BlueTEC Hybrid, it hits notes like a 5.5-second sprint from standstill to 62 miles per hour, up to 19 miles of ion-powered running and uses three liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in Europe (78.41 mpg US, but our mpg test cycle is different than their mpg test cycle).
The lump up front is a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6, the lump in back - note the reduction in trunk space - is a pack of lithium-ion batteries that juice an 80-kilowatt electric motor. Other than having four drive options for controlling electric drive and battery usage, it's all S-Class all the time, with leather-covered everything and those mountainous thrones that bring to mind words like "Archduke" and "Papal."
