In March 1962, Mercedes-Benz released the two-door W111 Coupe. This car was different from the four door "fintail's" of it's time. This car was considered the new flagship luxury sports model and was immediately dubbed "the gentleman's coupe". As years went on, it was the preferred vehicle the car of choice of the discriminating foreigner and most Hollywood elite's.

In summer of 1965 Mercedes-Benz launched its new replacements for both W111 and W112 sedans. In a bizarre twist of fate, this car's design was based on the W111 coupe, but widened and squared off, as the fintail fashion was quickly eroding by the mid 1960s. Design work on a future new chassis that would fully replace the Ponton-derivatives which both W111/W112 and W108/W109 were, was well under way (the concept car of the first S-class was shown in 1967). Given these two facts, Daimler did not develop a W108/W109 two-door vehicle at all and continued production of the W111/W112. However both models were modernized; the 220SE was superseded in early autumn by the 250SE which featured the new 2496 cm M129 engine, producing 150 horsepower (110 kW) at 5500 rpm, which gave it a significant improvement in top speed, 193 km/h (120 mph) (188 km/h (117 mph) on auto), and 0–100 km/h acceleration 12 seconds (14 on auto). Visibly the changes only affected the new 14-inch rims with new hub cabs and beauty rings; this was to accommodate the larger disk brakes and the new rear axle from the W108 family.

In November 1967, the 250SE was superseded by the new 1968 model 280SE. The new M130 engine had 2778 cubic centimeters volume, and output 160 hp (120 kW) at 5500 rpm. Top speed was hardly affected, the acceleration though improved to 10.5 seconds (13 on auto). Inside the car received a wood veneer option on the dashboard and other minor changes including door lock buttons and different heater levers.

I bought this car in Modesto California in 2009. It came out of a 20 year storage. I was going to restore it with my young nephew and he has abandoned the project. This particular car is a 1967 250SE Coupe and has every available option Mercedes had available including the following:

  • Power Windows
  • Power Sunroof
  • Air- Conditioning
  • Automatic Transmission

Also, this particular car has the very rare and desirable 300SE (W112) chrome trim. Since the car is a European model, it also has the rear fog lamp and the "automatic" transmission emblem on the rear deck lid.

What is not original to this car is the engine. It was professionally converted 30 years ago with a small block Chevrolet V8. I do have a European 1967 250SE sedan with the correct 6 cylinder fuel injected drivetrain if you are interested in taking this car back to it's original condition. This sedan parts car can be purchased separately and I will discuss this with anyone who is interested in the package. Also, I do have a VERY, VERY RARE W111 front and rear bucket seat interior (pics available) that I can sell separately that would make this car so unique and special. Both of these items are available outside of this auction.

The car does have some rust. I can see it in the rear trunk wells and in the front bumper support. I do have the grille, fuel tank, all the 300SE chrome trim. It will need one bucket seat and a front bumper. I can get you these parts from my parts car at an additional cost. This car does run. The fuel tank has been removed and cleaned and is ready to re-install, but you will need a fuel pump. The V8 engine has a new carburetor and is ready for you to finish servicing OR go back to original and replace with to correct motor that I mentioned above. I can do that for you if you would like the car ready to ship with all the correct Mercedes Benz parts. An additional expense will be required to do that work. I can assist with any shipping needs to your overseas port of entry.

Please note, this auction is just for the car pictured. Please call me at 817-715-6163 to discuss your needs and we will talk about the additional items I mentioned above. I reserve the right to sell them as a package with the car, but they ARE NOT listed as part of this auction.

Race Recap: 2013 Japanese Grand Prix flips several scripts [spoilers]

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Japan's Suzuka circuit is a great track that all the drivers love, but it doesn't usually provide the most thrilling, head-to-head racing. Where it does excel, however, is with surprises and "What just happened there?!" moments, and this year it was no different.
It started with Mark Webber in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing out-qualifying his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the first time this year. They were followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in the first Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the still-solid Romain Grosjean again outdoing teammate Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa racing for another seat in Formula One and putting his Ferrari in fifth, then Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes, Nico Hülkenberg in the first Sauber, Fernando Alonso in the second Ferrari, and Räikkönen continuing to do himself no favors by qualifying tenth.
For the second year in a row, the lights going out was the cue to start the first corner action...

Mercedes Concept GLA45 AMG is ready to run

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA45 AMG, and what we mean by that is, "This is the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG." Mercedes has just unveiled the liveried 'concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving potential customers a very good look at the newest lunatic in the AMG asylum - a 355-horsepower, 332-pound-foot crossover that uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA45 AMG and Europe's A45 AMG.
Joined with a seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, Mercedes promises a sub-five-second run to 60 miles per hour. That's not just quick for a crossover, that's quick full stop.
That sleek, lifted body has also been tweaked by the minds at AMG's Affalterbach facility. A new rear spoiler, side sills and front clip are the primary aerodynamic tweaks. Aesthetically, AMG has fitted the requisite "Turbo" badges, gloss-black accents (including exhaust tips and roof rails) and a set of 21-inch, AMG-spec alloy wheels to round out the overall package. Based on the spy shots we've seen, expect slightly toned down aerodynamics when the GLA45 AMG arrives in showrooms.

Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
