Mercedes Benz 190e 2.3-16v Cosworth on 2040-cars
Littleton, Colorado, United States
Up for sale is the ubiquitous 190E 2.3-16V Cosworth- the car that started the performance tech race between german car builders. I've decided to sell my 1986 MB Cozzie as it has been sitting for some time without any attention. I bought this car as a project to restore, but my attention was consumed by another car. I've decided to let this pony out of my stable. Selling for less than I bought it for as I'm pretty motivated to sell. This would make a cheap parts car or a good candidate for restore, which is what I initially had in mind.
The car is originally from California, great body, and has a clean title. It does have a loose chain guide, which causes some noise at idle.. The top end of the motor does leak a bit of oil, probably a valve cover gasket, as moisture can be seen on the seam. Car passed smog in '13 in California. Runs and drives- when I bought it, I drove it all the way from CA to CO. Added about a quart of oil after the 19 hour drive. The car is black/black, the paint is a bit oxidized as its previous owner didn't garage it. Car was resprayed some odd years ago with a poor black overspray. It does have a Euro headlight option and is lowered on some aftermarket springs. Sunroof and power functions work fine with the exception of the lap timer and voltage meter. Strong oil pressure, starts right up! Car is probably worth more than it will sell for in parts... so if you have the space/time to part it out, that may be a good revenue stream. I, unfortunately, do not have the time nor space for that. The car is lowered and during my most recent drive, a deep gutter kicked a piece of trim off the passenger side. Broke some plastic clips that hold it in place. I still have the piece of trim. My loss is your gain with this exceedingly difficult-to-find collectable. Selling cheap as you'll google that even in "project" condition, these go for 7-8K. Google it! Yes, it is automatic, but I was planning on doing a AMG V8 swap in it. Better not to disturb a rare collectible anyway :) No reserve- somebody fly in, drive home. |

Mercedes Concept GLA45 AMG is ready to run
Wed, 20 Nov 2013This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA45 AMG, and what we mean by that is, "This is the Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG." Mercedes has just unveiled the liveried 'concept' at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving potential customers a very good look at the newest lunatic in the AMG asylum - a 355-horsepower, 332-pound-foot crossover that uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the CLA45 AMG and Europe's A45 AMG.
Joined with a seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission and an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, Mercedes promises a sub-five-second run to 60 miles per hour. That's not just quick for a crossover, that's quick full stop.
That sleek, lifted body has also been tweaked by the minds at AMG's Affalterbach facility. A new rear spoiler, side sills and front clip are the primary aerodynamic tweaks. Aesthetically, AMG has fitted the requisite "Turbo" badges, gloss-black accents (including exhaust tips and roof rails) and a set of 21-inch, AMG-spec alloy wheels to round out the overall package. Based on the spy shots we've seen, expect slightly toned down aerodynamics when the GLA45 AMG arrives in showrooms.
Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...
Fri, 15 Mar 2013If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013
Sun, 15 Sep 2013When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.
