1972 MGB/GT Phenomenal Original Condition

The MGB is a sports car launched by MG Cars in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coup? or fixed roof with 2+2 seating was added in 1965, but export to the US ceased in 1974, adding to the rarity of left-hand drive (export) models. The 1972 edition was the Mark III, having benefited from all the improvements of the Mark II, such as synchromesh on all four gears, new rear axle, an alternator vs. generator, triple wipers, safety dash, and reclining seats. You can tell a Mark III by the revised dashboard layout, but importantly, it retains the chrome grille and bumpers, which are the models most sought after by collectors.

The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and launched the sporty "hatchback" style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the B GT offered the utility of a station wagon while retaining the style and shape of a coupe. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the roadster. Relatively few major components differed from the more plentiful roadster, which makes parts availability excellent.  The MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars, which enhanced its handling, as did the more aerodynamic roof styling, which increased economy and top speed.

This low mileage, rust-free example has received just one repaint, and remains in exceptionally original condition. The interior is original down to the British Leyland radio, as is the entire drive train, which drives as new (tight, crisp, rattle and noise free). The car has been “sorted” by a renowned MGB specialist, which stops at nothing until everything works properly and reliably. Everything, down to the interior lights, gauges, even the radio. The previous owner was a perfectionist, and purchased a complete new wiring harness for the car, which was installed, and will free you from the fear of electronic gremlins: this car has none.

As you can see, the car was furnished in Tahiti Blue with a tan interior and factory wire wheels. The car was Ziebarted, which is a rust-proofing system whereby protective material is injected into the panels and coats exposed surfaces to eliminate rust from forming inside or out.  It obviously works, as this car wears all its original panels and never required restoration.

The engine compartment is detailed as is the trunk area. The undercarriage is clean as a whistle, and shows no sign of replaced floors, etc. She doesn’t leak oil, as rare as that may be, as Brit car lovers joke that a British car that doesn’t leak oil doesn’t have any.

If you’re looking for an MGB that is out-of-the ordinary, a pleasure and thrill to drive, is extremely practical (great mileage, plus rear seat and hatchback for carrying stuff), won’t drain your savings account, and will take trophies at your next car show, you won’t find a better choice than this GT.
