Very nice Mark IV: * 83.5k well documented miles * 1 owner until 2012 (now 2) * nice repaint 2yrs ago due primarily to oxidation * excellent interior, original floor mats, dash/carpet/seats excellent * new: tires (3k?), valve seals, radiator, hoses, belts, coil, starter (high torque), stereo (have original), window motors (2 front), hood hinges, spark plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets, replaced ac compressor (blows cold, R12), universal joints, probably others I'm forgetting; new water pump, edelbrock carb works great (original versions kept leaking as they are prone to do). Car starts right up after sitting for weeks even when 30 deg. * transmission professionally serviced with new seals * runs strong; driven 9k since 2012; 500 miles in last month * local tax value $8.2k after inspection * neg - horn and a/c compressor are on separate switches on dash (discretely located underneath); no cruise; back left window needs gear (only moves 1.5 in horizontally when functional anyway), small rust bubbles by front wheel wells -not noticeable from 10 ft and easy fix (recent), small dent in corner of roof, power lock works on passenger side only; * brake components they work great. However the antiquated sure-trak (like a 1974 ABS - best avoided) seems to be non-functional and the brake dash light is on for that reason. Currently taped over and unnoticeable. So they function like normal disk/front drum/back brakes. * It seems as if the car has gotten a hair louder in the last week. There may be a slight exhaust leak.

Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.

Lincoln trumpets $129M investment, 300 new jobs in Louisville for MKC

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

Remember when we used to talk about how close Lincoln was to being axed and how it seemed any day now the Grim Reaper would use it as a car service back to the grave? Last time we did it was, oh, not even a month ago. What a difference 27 days makes: Ford and Lincoln are trumpeting a $129M investment in the Louisville Assembly Plant that builds the MKC.
In July the MKC was the third-best-selling Lincoln of the brand's six offerings, beat by the MKZ and - by a much smaller margin - the MKX. It has sold 2,895 units in the two months it's been on sale, which is more than half the year-to-date sales of the MKS, MKT and Navigator. It's already important, is what we're trying to say, and this is before the Chinese market gets a crack at it later this year.
The money headed to Kentucky will be joined by 300 new workers, another marker in Ford's march to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the US by next year. You can read more about it in the press release below.
