Land Rover County 110 (defender) 1980, Galvinized Chassis Upgrade on 2040-cars
Buckfield, Maine, United States
I bought this Land Rover in England in 2008 and had it taken to a Land Rover repair shop there and had a large amount of work done, over 30,000.00 US. It is a 1984 County Model 110 Defender but because of Ebay's system it is listed as a 1980. Right hand drive. 5 Speed. No A/C. Manual Steering. I have receipts for all work done. The following is a list off the top of my head what I had done: Replace complete chassis with new galvanized model'/Replace shocks and springs with Bilsteins /Install complete stainless exhaust system /Replace rear side doors with new ones. Replace steel bulkhead /Replace fuel tank / Replace door and windshield gaskets/ Replace radiator, all rubber in engine compartment, clutch, water pump, injectors, brake lines, filters and most nuts and bolts/ New door steps/ New Cubby Box/ New Bumper/ Re spray as the Brit's say. This vehicle was taken to bits and completely re assembled ! I have put about 10,000 miles on this Rover since I bought it in 2008. I have spent most of the last six years working overseas and have not had the opportunity to drive it much. I generally drive my FJ Cruiser in the Winter. The top speed on this vehicle is about 68-70, that's it, but it will do that all day. It is slow uphill but speed is not a Land Rover virtue. I have an extra set of original pressed steel wheels that will be included along with new halogen H4 headlights. This is a great vehicle to drive as is or maybe upgrade to a Turbo Diesel in the future. I will miss this vehicle,it has just about everything that every other vehicle on the road does not have, too much philosophy to go into here. I am not a dealer and am obviously not making money on this transaction but I did learn a few things about Rovers during this "Restoration" , First is, all older Rovers from England are rusty ! If you don't replace the chassis with a galvanized one you are just putting off the event. The second is, If you buy a Rover from someone importing it to the states for re sale it is definitely Buyer Beware as their motivation is maximum profits at your expense |

Jaguar Land Rover opens first overseas factory in China
Wed, 22 Oct 2014Anyone who's a car fan knows that Jaguar and Land Rover cars and trucks all come from the UK. And while we don't doubt that will remain true for the most part, it won't be an absolute truth for long, as the British automaker has just opened its first factory overseas.
Its new plant in Changshu, China, is the result of a $1.8-billion joint venture between JLR and local automaker Chery. It covers some 4.3-million square feet and will, once at peak capacity, produce 130,000 units specifically for the Chinese market, where JLR sells over 100,000 vehicles each year to make it the company's single largest market worldwide.
Production at what's officially known as the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company will start with the Evoque, of which one in five globally are currently sold in China. Production will eventually encompass three models. We already know that the Discovery Sport will be next, but the third model line has yet to be announced. JLR has confirmed, however, that the Changshu plant will produce unique models and derivatives specifically for the Chinese market, so we wouldn't be surprised to see a long-wheelbase version of the forthcoming XE or next-generation XF assembled there to satisfy local tastes.
European automakers gear up for Brazilian production
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
Jaguar Land Rover details JustDrive connectivity suite
Tue, 18 Nov 2014
JustDrive will allegedly deliver on the long-promised idea of natural communication between driver and car.
Jaguar Land Rover's all-new InControl system is set to get a big bump as the British company will add a new service called JustDrive, which expands on the smartphone-focused infotainment system by adding a singular voice controller for a wide array of the system's currently available apps.
