1982 Jeep CJ7 Laredo: The Jeep CJ-7 featured a wheelbase 10 inches longer than that of the CJ-5 and lacked its trademark rear curve of the door cutouts. The other main difference to the CJ-5 was to the chassis which
hitherto consisted of two parallel longitudinal main c-section rails. To help improve vehicle handling and stability, the rear section of the chassis stepped out to allow the road springs and dampers to be mounted closer to the outside
of the body. It was introduced in 1976, and 379,299 were built during 11 years of production. The CJ-7 featured an optional new automatic all-wheel drive system called Quadra-Trac, as well as a part-time two-speed transfer case. An
automatic transmission was also an option. Other features included an optional molded hardtop, and steel doors. The CJ-7 was also available in Renegade and an upgraded Laredo model. Noticeable by their different body decals, the Laredo
model featured highback leather bucket seats, a tilting steering wheel and an elaborate chrome package that included the bumpers, front grille, and mirrors. An optional Trak-Lok differential was available for the rear. Rear axle ratio
typically 3.54, but later went up to 2.73.
When we found this CJ7 was available for sale, we jumped on the opportunity to add it to our inventory! In our haste, we neglected to clearly define the term "good paint" with the seller. Simply "good" doesn't go over well around here so within 24 hours of arrival this Jeep was introduced to our proffesional painter. The instructions were clear; "... make the paint and body show as strong as the numerous options that give this Laredo such amazing curb appeal." A few weeks later this beauty was returned with an exceptional brand new paint job and all new decals. Before we dizzy you with all this Jeep's features, we'd like to ask you to ponder this comparison. Which of these options makes more sense? Spending $35-40k on a new Jeep (with a Nav system weaker than your iPhone) that has a value dropping like a rock with each day and mile that passes? Or, spend about half that for a unique classic Jeep that turns heads, handles any job, drives great and appreciates in value with each passing day. Ok, so there is no A/C. Needing a Jeep with A/C makes about as much sense as needing a Harley with a sunroof. Your second excuse -- I can't get financing on a 32yr old vehicle. Wrong!, we have lenders that will finance up to 90% on classic vehicles. And finally, if your wife/husband won't let you buy it ... match.com offers a solution for that problem too. :) Now on to the good stuff! In addition to the paint, you will see in the photos that the seats, stereo, and top are also brand new. The extensive list of options, features, and upgrades includes; Rebuilt 6 Cyl(258 ci) Engine, Rebuilt 5 Speed Transmission, 4x4 (4WD), Power Steering & Brakes, 4" Lift, Custom Front Bumper, SmittyBuilt XRC Performance 10k lb Winch (w/ cover & cable), Highback Bucket Seats, Rubber Floor mats, Rollbar, Rigid Industries LED Fog Lights (2), LED Headlights, Kenwood KDC-BT952HD Stereo, Scosche Speakers, Chrome Exhaust Tip, Airhorns, Tilt, Tint, Tow Package, Tire Tools, Spare Rack w/ 2 Gas Cans, Spare Tire w/ Cover, 15" Alloy Outlaws, and Pro-Comp X-Terrain 33x12.5R15LT Tires! All the gauges work like they are supposed to including the factory tachometer and clock. There is a cruise control set-up present but we have not tested it. The only mechanical item we found in need of replacing was the starter so we installed a new one on 9/15/14. You are not going to find a nicer or stronger running CJ7 in this price range! With the "Buy it Now" option you can own this custom CJ7 now and receive FREE SHIPPING * to your driveway. Not only is shipping free but we will handle all of the shipping arrangements and provide complete cargo insurance while in transit. Why wait a week just to be out bid at the last second by another bidder? We sell 90% of our cars with the low “Buy It Now” option. This unique Jeep is not a vehicle you are going to find at your local dealership. Reserve is set just below the “Buy It Now” price. Why wait? “Buy It Now” and get your new CJ7 home safe and hassle free! If you are local or have your own transportation arrangements, we may accept a slightly lower offer. * USA - excludes; Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, & Maine. Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition coming to America
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Jeep originally took the wraps off its Polar Edition Wrangler at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and at the time, we figured this would be a Europe-only affair. (Perfectly fine, since we US customers haven't exactly been lacking special edition Wrangler models over the years.) But now, and as Jeep says, just in time for winter, the automaker has announced that the ice cold Wrangler will be hitting North American showrooms in November.
Based on the Wrangler Sahara model, the Polar Edition can be had in either two- or four-door body styles, with a unique Hydro Blue paint job as the featured color. (Buyers can also opt for less-special Billet Silver and Bright White hues.) Other exterior enhancements include a body-colored hardtop, 18-inch gloss black wheels, the Powerdome (power bulge) hood, and unique decals all around the body.
But the Polar Edition isn't just about some paint and stickers. Jeep has fitted this Wrangler with a Dana 30 front axle and Dan 44 rear axle, as well as the Trac-Lok anti-spin electronic rear differential. Like all US-spec Wranglers, the Polar Edition uses Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, producing 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Both a six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission are available.
Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver is a more rugged Trailhawk
Wed, 06 Nov 2013We briefly mentioned the Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver that was heading to SEMA last week when discussing the Mopar lineup set to be shown in Las Vegas. At the time, though, we weren't able to dive too deeply into details. But with SEMA in full swing, we were able to sneak over and grab some snaps of one of the first modified Cherokees we've seen. The Cherokee is, after all, kind of an unknown quantity in the modification department, being so new and featuring such a polarizing design. We were quite interested to see what Mopar could come up with.
Starting with the Trailhawk 4x4 and its 3.2-liter V6, the engine is fitted with a Mopar cold-air intake and a new exhaust, although it's not clear what sort of power boost has resulted. We'll admit, we were hoping Jeep and Mopar would get a bit more aggressive with the Cherokee's suspension (has anyone thrown a few-inch lift on the new Jeep yet?), but there's no mention of upgrades beyond the knobby, off-road tires. Those should do some good when the going gets rough, while rock rails are there to protect the Auburn Pearl paint on the body.
Speaking of that paint, it's complemented by an interesting graphics package in contrasting black and Crush Orange. The cabin sports Katzkin Amaretto leather seats, along with tech-friendly items like a wireless charging system for cellphones and wireless internet.
Watch this 9-year-old drive Jeep Wrangler off-road [w/poll]
Wed, 28 May 2014This nine-year-old girl might be better at rock crawling than some people twice her age. But is it worth putting her in danger to do it? According to her father on the Jeep Experience Facebook page, her name is Faith, and she has been offroading with her family since she was two. At nine years old, she's now driving her dad's Jeep over the rocks by herself.
As you can see she's belted in and under her father's direct supervision and guidance. She shows immense confidence for someone her age and follows her dad's instructions on exactly what to do. Although, this could still be a very dangerous situation if something went wrong.
Previously, we saw a similar video with a six-year-old on a motorcycle driving on public roads through the desert. Voters decided by only a six-point margin that the adult should be in trouble for letting the kid ride the bike. Here, we have a slightly older child driving a vehicle off road. Where do you fall in this case? Is it still wrong to hand over control to a child? Let us know in the poll below and scroll down to watch the video.
