1978 Jeep CJ5 4x4 Project. Jeep purchases in July of 2010. It was running and driven on the street. I decided to clean it up and make some "upgrades. Jeep is equipped with a 360 cubic inch V8 engine. Body is a fiberglass replacement tub along with the front fenders and fender wells. The hood and front grill are original steel. The original ignition was removed and a single wire Mallory HEI system with 8mm wires was installed along with new spark plugs. The original Mopar alternator and regulator was replaced with a one wire Delco alternator. The original wire harness was replaced with a Kwik Wire system which includes a new fuse panel and relays. Engine has headers and a customer made 3" dual pipes that exit just after the rear axle. Four brand new Ranchero 9000 series shocks are installed. New mirror kits, hood hinges and hood latches and new dash. Tires are 31 x 10.5 x 15 on white wagon wheels. Tires are like brand new. Jeep has a custom made steel angle iron rear bumper with tow ball. Seats are from a new style Jeep that we were going to modify to fit in the CJ. Original old style Jeep steering wheel. Included is a brand new master cylinder and booster to give you power brakes. A complete set of new stainless brake lines from Classic Tube. A brand new set of Autometer white faced retro gauges. A steel gas tank. A box of spare parts. The two steel lines in the spare parts kit we were using for the fuel lines.

This is a project piece so the Jeep currently is not in running condition. The wiring to the engine compartment along with the head and tail lights is complete. The following needs to be done: gas tank with fuel lines, interior wiring, brake system including lines and booster with master cylinder, seats, roof and doors. We worked on this on and off for a year. We just don't have the time to finish it.  Send me a TEXT message if you are instated in it. 732-754-3980. You will be responsible to come and tow it away.

Jeep mulling power top for next Wrangler

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Jeep is hard at work on the next-generation Wrangler, though the truck is still a few years from hitting the trails. The new model will still be aimed at off-roaders, but rumors suggest it will be a little more comfortable than previous versions to appeal to more people.
According to Road and Track, Jeep is developing a power-retractable top as an expensive option for the Wrangler. There is no word if the top in question is a sliding canvas rollback like the ones found on many European vehicles or a full convertible hardtop or softtop, nor do we know whether it would be made available on two- or four-door models. It might be a nice feature for some buyers but would certainly add complexity to a truck already known for its ruggedness. We asked Jeep for confirmation, but Jeep spokesperson Todd Goyer could only remind us that the company "can't comment about future products."
In news that is likely to irk the faithful, R&T reports the next model may also ditch its folding windshield for improved safety and possibly even get rid of its rear-mounted, full-size spare tire. The new Wrangler won't go completely soft, though, and will reportedly still feature removable doors and solid axles.

2014 Jeep Cherokee: Introduction

Tue, 27 May 2014

When we look back at some of the more shocking product launches of recent yeras, the Jeep Cherokee is certainly high up on the list. And we aren't just talking about its off-the-wall, polarizing design.
For starters, it brought back the iconic Cherokee nameplate - something Jeep enthusiasts have coveted for ages. But beyond that, it brought a new evolution for the Jeep brand. After all, the Cherokee is car-based - using the same compact platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. It has a greater focus on technology and refinement than ever before, in an effort to appeal to a new crop of Jeep customers. And powering it all is a new (optional) V6 engine paired with an equally new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Can the Cherokee's car-based roots still allow for a vehicle that's superb when the going gets tough? Will its design still be a love/hate affair in one year's time, or will it start to blend in? Is the powertrain strong enough to not only support the needs of daily driving and road trips, but blaze a few trails as well? We're aiming to answer all these questions, and more, over the next 12 months. Welcome to the Autoblog long-term garage, Cherokee.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
