1974 Jeep Cj5 Base Sport Utility 2-door 3.8l**new Pictures** on 2040-cars
Southern Pines, North Carolina, United States
Spring will be here soon!!! Here is a 1974 Jeep CJ-5 with 59,726 miles. 3.8L inline 6 cyl. with a 3-speed manual transmission. This Jeep was a farm vehicle, and then bought by a customer of mine who had it a few years, and traded it in with us. I work for a Ford dealership, and wanted to list this one on ebay myself. The Jeep has a little bit of rust on the back tailgate, and a small dent on the left back corner. The paint cracked here, and has a little rust in the crack. Floor boards and underside look good. Looks like it has an undercoating. Overall the body is in really good condition. It smokes a little, but starts right up every time, and has good tires (with a new spare). The roll-bars and rear seats are not installed right now, but are included. It has been serviced, and a NC state inspection has been done. It would be sold as-is. I will be glad to email more pictures, just let me know. Pick-up here in central NC, or shipping arranged by buyer. The buy-it-now price is $7,125 ($6,625 plus $499 dealer administrative fee, plus $1 for a 30 day NC tag). Buyer responsible for state tax & tag fees. Please ask any questions and I will try to answer as best I can.
Thanks, Ross Cooke Vin# J4F835TA77274 |

NHTSA closes investigation into Jeep Liberty fires
Sun, 16 Mar 2014The investigation that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened into the Jeep Liberty in October 2013 has been closed. NHTSA received two (!) complaints about fires starting in the driver's door, thought to be caused by the master power window switch. The initial estimate was that 80,000 Libertys could be roped into a possible recall, but according to a report in the Detroit News the agency examined records for 425,000 Chrysler products that used the same window switch, including the Dodge Nitro and Chrysler Town & Country minivan.
After canvassing 265 warranty claims related to the master switches, NHTSA concluded that the rate of fires compared to the "large population of vehicles" was rather low, and that there was no trend pattern behind the few issues it did find. Perhaps with that, and the closure of the trailer hitch investigation, the Liberty can finally rest in peace.

Jeep rear-mounted fuel tank controversy
NHTSA closes book on Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall after all
Mon, 20 Jan 2014After much debating and hand-wringing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now says it has "no reservations" with Chrysler's plan to recall certain Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models over concerns that their fuel tanks, which are located behind the rear axle, could rupture or leak in the event of a rear impact. The longstanding argument between the two entities saw Chrysler openly defy the Feds after a request to recall 2.7 million units back in June.
Chrysler's "voluntary campaign" will instead see it recall 1.56-million 1993-2004 model year Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with 2002-2007 Liberty models. Affected vehicles will get a trailer hitch installed free of charge, which Chrysler says will provide an additional degree of protection for the fuel tanks in the event of a crash. Jeeps with Mopar-branded hitches or hitches that were installed at the factory aren't affected by this recall.
Chrysler's argument throughout this battle has been that the Jeeps in question are no more susceptible to fires than comparable vehicles from the same time period, a position that NHTSA has seemingly arrived at as well. "Those vehicles performed at a rate similar to their peers. That is the keystone analysis as to whether something poses an unreasonable risk to safety," said outgoing NHTSA boss David Strickland during an interview with the The Associated Press.
