Jaguar XF Sportbrake is the cure for the common F-Pace

Before Jaguar introduced the F-Pace crossover, the only way an American could get their hands on a long-roof leaper was to either move to Europe and buy an XF Sportbrake or pick up the rare X-Type Sportwagon on the used market. But now that the F-Pace is on sale, there's no need for a Jag wagon (henceforth known as the Jagon), right? Wrong. Spotted lapping the Nurburgring, the second-generation XF sedan transitions to wagon duty as naturally as the first-gen car did, promising a boost in cargo capacity without sacrificing the good looks of Jaguar's middle child. But the sloping roofline won't do the XF's versatility too many favors – as our spies rightly state, it looks like Jag's designers are favoring style over outright cargo space. Beyond the roofline, expect the new Sportbrake to follow its predecessor's example and adhere very closely to the XF sedan. Don't expect any changes from the firewall forward, with most of the changes above the beltline and at the tail, where Jag's designers obviously need to rethink the look to accommodate the rear hatch. The overall taillight shape should stay the same, while the lower bumper will carry over with only modest adjustments. Under hood, our spies report the car shown here is Jaguar's potent S trim, with a 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6. While it's a safe bet that Jaguar will sell the Sportbrake in Europe with all the lesser XF engines – not to mention R and RS variants – it's unlikely all three mainstream engines will arrive in the US. Oh yeah, our spies claim there's a chance the long-roof XF will hit the US market. We're calling it a very slim chance, though. Audi and BMW deported their A6/5 Series wagons years ago, leaving the segment to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The Volvo V90 will add some Swedish flair to the segment, but the bottom line is that importing and federalizing a new model to compete in a segment responsible for just 20,000 units per year isn't good business. 2021 Jaguar F-Type convertible and coupe spied at the Nurburgring

We got our first look at the 2021 Jaguar F-Type back in May this year, and we were impressed with the edits Jag has in store. The F-Type hasn’t changed a whole lot since it went on sale in 2013, and this redesign looks like the most comprehensive update itÂ’s ever received. These latest shots show the British sports car running around the Nurburgring in both coupe and convertible body styles. We havenÂ’t seen the drop-top yet, so this marks our first look at this version of the new F-Type. Of course, the black soft top is up on this one, but it looks just how weÂ’d expect the convertible to appear. Both the convertible and coupe spied here appear to be high-performance V8 models with quad exhaust tips protruding aggressively beyond the rear bumper. Both these models are making use of their differing active rear wings on the track. The lit-up taillights in back draw our eyes with a shallow U-shaped design. One difference we note among the two is the rear valance/diffuser design. The coupe looks like itÂ’s rocking the design derived from the current SVR, while the convertible looks like an R. However, the tiny wing on the coupe looks nothing like the large one used on the current SVR. What might Jaguar be planning? What we do know is that this Jaguar is most likely still going to look stunning. The shape and silhouette of the car will stay the same, but the sheetmetal and styling elements are definitely going through a significant evolution. The big grille and thin headlights are in line to give the face an entirely new look. Even though Ian Callum has decided to step away from Jaguar Land Rover, he was undoubtedly involved with the design process of this F-Type.  We hope to see even more of this stylish British rocket as Jaguar presses on with development. Expect powertrain upgrades aplenty when itÂ’s finally revealed. These few prototypes weÂ’ve seen out driving spell good news for fans of V8 engines, too.

NHTSA is investigating FCA shifters for roll-away accidents again, this time the rotary units

It seems FCA's shifter troubles aren't over yet. Now, just a few months after issuing a recall to resolve user-related issues with its monostable shifters, the company is again under investigation by NHTSA. The issue is related to the potential for cars to roll away when the rotary-style shifter is not properly placed in park. Two FCA models are the subject of this investigation: the 2013–2016 Ram 1500 and the 2014–2016 Dodge Durango. NHTSA estimates about 1,000,000 vehicles would be affected if a recall is issued. The investigation was started following 43 complaints of vehicles rolling away while supposedly being in "park." Among the complaints were reports of 25 crashes and 9 injuries. NHTSA does point out that in every incident, the parking brake was not engaged. A representative from FCA also gave us an official statement regarding the investigation: "FCA US is cooperating fully with NHTSA's investigation, the scope of which is limited. Other vehicles equipped with rotary shifters are not included. In accordance with prudent practice, the Company joins NHTSA in urging all drivers to use their vehicles' parking brakes." View 35 Photos As mentioned above, other Chrysler products with rotary shifters, such as the Pacifica minivan and 200 sedan, are not involved in this investigation. One of the key differences, as the representative told us, is that these vehicles have electronic parking brakes that automatically engage if the driver does not select park and then opens the door with the seatbelt unbuckled. The Ram 1500 and Durango feature mechanical, manually operated parking brakes and therefore cannot activate the brake automatically. Because this is currently an investigation, an exact cause for the incidents has yet to be determined, and none of the vehicles have been recalled. It's possible there could be a mechanical defect. However, the issue could be a confusing interface causing user error, as was the case with FCA's monostable shifters, where drivers think they've put the car in park but actually haven't. Something that indicates it could be a case of confused users is that NHTSA also opened an investigation into 2012–2014 Jaguar XF and Land Rover Range Rover Evoques for similar issues. Both vehicles use a rotary shifter and have had roll-away complaints levied as well. Even if it is a case of user error, FCA and Jaguar Land Rover may still have to recall their vehicles.
