This is a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle support truck. It was owned by Northrup Grumman Corporation. I purchased it from a Corporate Fleet Management company who generally supplies me with off lease heavy trucks. I'm pretty surprised the HMMWV was sold this way (I've never seen another before or after), but I didn't ask any questions.

Serial number: BT0087093

This rig has a CLEAR CALIFORNIA TITLE. It is currently registered with no back DMV fees according to the printout I got.

The HMWWV has 817 original miles. The back was originally full of electronic gear (some left). The HVAC units on top are there to keep the electronics and the operators cool in the Southern California desert sun. The rig towed either the launch unit or the generator out to the UAV test location on the base. It was obviously stored indoors when not in use, as it has little UV damage. The electronics and HVAC system are all three phase A/C, the truck was not idling to power any of it.

The truck is completely original. No cosmetic work has been done that I am aware of. It runs and drives well. The drivers side curtain has some stitching pulling away. The passenger side windshield is cracked and delaminating. The tires have good tread but have some cracking. If you want to drive the rig home I think they would need to be replaced prior.

This is a standard soft top troop carrier chassis. The body on the back is held on by about 10 bolts. When removed you would be left with a four place open top HMMWV. I figure anyone looking at this rig has an imagination, but the box is big enough that if you took out all the gear you could install a couple bunks.

The auction has no reserve

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

GeigerCars Hummer H2 Bomber - Click above for high-res image gallery
GiegerCars has a love affair with American cars, and a particularly strange affection for Hummers. The German tuner has created all sorts of strange variants like a Christmas-themed H2, a 700-horsepower H2 built for a Texas sheriff or any number of racing-liveried Hummers like the "Gulf Wing" or this Martini Racing inspired H3.
GiegerCars' latest creation is the Hummer H2 Bomber. The most notable modification is the addition of four Mattracks 88M1-A1 rubber tracks that replace the twenty inch wheels. The rest of the vehicle features a military design theme as well as a roof box with lighting and a silver matte paint finish. Now all we need is a race on a snow-covered drag strip between this and Ken Block's Subaru TRAX STI. Follow the jump for the press release from GeigerCars.

AM General to offer civilian Humvee kit car

Thu, 02 Aug 2012

For anyone feeling nostalgic about the passing of the Hummer brand, or the actual wartime vehicle that inspired it, now is your chance to own a version of the original HMMWV, albeit without an engine.
After a 12-year hiatus from the civilian vehicle market, AM General is reportedly set to offer a kit-car of the C-Series Humvee. The kit will conform to U.S. government regulations and has been made possible by a deal with General Motors.
The kit costs $59,000 - and you still need an engine. A likely favorite would be a Duramax Diesel V8 and Allison transmission combination, as was found on the H1 Alpha. AM General estimates that an owner could buy the kit Humvee and outfit a powerplant and transmission for $75,000. Not bad, considering that H1 Alpha has an MSRP of $140,000 in 2005.
